    I just wrote this, let me know what you think.

    Doom

    Times have always been mean--
    Neolithic battle fields
    give proof to stone age war
    the inherent violence in Man's heart.

    War has always been,
    tribes have always fought;
    for territorial gains,
    for egoistic pride,
    for religious zeal,
    for old hatreds,
    causes long forgotten.

    I see all the strife today
    and try to console myself
    that this is not the end of the world,
    that this is nothing new under the sun.
    Even when mighty Rome fell amid turbulence,
    and the whole world seemed to shake,
    stability gone with the wind and war;
    life went on, if harder for a while.

    Yet there weighs upon my heart and mind
    a small little fact,
    a small little cluster of facts;
    something about global pollution,
    and weapons of mass destruction;
    and the animal mind of man
    incapable of concieving the scale
    of his newfound power to destroy
    but with a heart still filled with the old hate
    and the urge to do something about it.

    Impressive, insightful, astute, and of course, quite a ways beyound unfortunately, correct.

    In the very tenative, (just a minute Kevin, don't kid yourself), Okay so scratch that, I had no timeline or even outline for what I had intended to attempt to convey to this community;
    ( I have mentioned in other posts that I was attempting to present information on a number of topics to establish credability, (something that in general I really suck at, for "in general" credability depends on far more things than it does specifically within the formal investigation into nature))
    ...but if I had, making the point you make in this poem, would have been yet, at least 2 weeks away. This is a rare event, so please excuse, or ignore the following questions, if you feel they are intrusive, or NOMB...

    Why does it bother you?
    and
    Do you think yourself capable of becoming callous to this issue, particularly if doing so would make your existance more comfortable?

    Actually there is a very large cluster of facts, however one massive truism will do to establish the validity of the argument. Exponential growth in a finite system is an absolute impossibility, any system within which exponential growth occurs in any of the variables of that system, it will fail, and fail catastrophically.

    I would very much welcome a chance to discuss this with you further, once again, a most excellent work.
    Well faring good human

    it bothers me because it could be the death of us all. And yes, there are moments when I am callous about it, forgeting about it in favor of "life as usual." For example, I just bought a car, a truck actually, and that only adds to the pollution and oil demand, and thus, oil wars and global tensions. I see my own hypocricy, so no need to point it out. Actually, it just goes to illustrate the problem, that even those who care, don't always care, nor care enough.

    And I was being ironic with the "small little cluster of facts" bit, as I know it's a massive problem with a lot going into it. But it's treated as if it's small, when it's remembered at all.

    Great poem. Flows with your thoughts so very naturally. Question, though! What if man's mind can evolve? The mind must move first if the world it has created, influenced, and damaged is to ever heal. Man must see himself so he can see what he is doing. Then the action becomes authentic.

    When has it ever proven itself to "evolve"? Look at history, man. I did, and that's why it scares me. Same violent streak, vastly more powerful ability to destroy. Combined, it's not a pretty picture. There's hope, but not much.

    Glad you liked the poem tho

    Yo man! Pardon me, I meant no criticism by my question of becoming callous, what I wanted to know is whether you could see yourself ever just dropping the issue entirely.
    I felt the irony in your words, and know as well that most when made aware of teh problem still think it small, for me however the problem is huge. You see there is a certain kind of person this problem will bother, unfortunately that type seems to be a relatively small percentage of the population. This type of person is also the only type I see any point in attempting to discuss the issues with, in hope of presenting a possible solution set that may yet be doable. This way would require having eventually a rather large number of these people in one place, which of course would require communicating with a large number of people wherer there would likely be such people, and so finally you know why I'm here.
    Apologies for sounding critical it was the furthest thing from my mind at the time, check your pm's for my first draft of a response thta ought to clear that up pretty thoroughly,
    Take care
