yo, this movie has been around a while, just wondering what some of your thoughts were on this movie. Check it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KINeuBEgP Heres the trailor to it. If you have seen this movie in its entireity, is it worth the money. (probably gonna buy it anyway)
Ridiculous that they connect drugs and hairstyle, and PLUR, totally ridiculous and unneeded. It seems the whole movie's message is about that. What, if not that, spurs people's prejudices about dreadheads. It's sad.
yeah seriously makes people like us look bad. Not everyone who has dreads is a pot smoking dirty hippie (no offense to those who are though).
I don't find it offensive, just b/c the people on the movie have chosen a different lifestyle than I have. I would rather celibrate all dreads and the different lifestyles that each individual choses rather than sterotype people. I think it portrayed a cool lifestyle but that life isn't for me personally. Besides, a lot more people smoke pot and use other drugs than just dreadies. Most of the people I know indulge in some "guilty pleasure" and they don't have dreads. What's next, all people wearing band tee-shirts are stoners? Don't let sterotypes take over by allowing them to exist. I hope this makes sense. Peace and love
you always make sence i guess finding it offensive was too strong..i meant more finding it limmeted in its perspective..but thats just judging by the trailer, not the whole movie.. so wont judge it till i see it, but i wouldnt pay to see it based on that clip
I agree, I wouldn't pay to see it but it made a good quick clip to watch. It's always interesting to see a lifestyle totally different than the one that you are living, eh? I mean besides the smot poking; I think that's everywhere. Peace and love
I haven't made it all the way through that video, but dude, that is sweet! I want to go to one of those festivals one day. Any need for a geologist in any group? Thanks for exposing me to that lifestyle. It seems so much more pure than the college life I'm living. Peace and love
i liked the trailor. i gotta get on a pc to see the wmv file tho never works on my mac. sure i question the message that it sends, you can not deny that when films like this are made (any film at all), the people making them are very conscious of the messages they imposing on their audience. i believe anyone in the movie filem documentary bizz finds it in their best interests, perhaps, to dramatize the *extremes* to appeal to a certain audience. i also wont deny that its possible this could promote more stereotypes. it could. when you have all these degrees and a vast spectrum of people with one unifying thing in common - like dreads - they are going to choose *this* side as opposed to another side. this side is more marketable, known to popular culture as *deviant culture*....people are natuarally inclined towards "deviance". it strikes curiosity more than say a housewive picking up the kids from school and baking a cake, or even a silent buddhist monk with dreads to channel heavenly energy. what *looks* on the screen? what will make people go "eh" and what will make people go "woooooooooah!!!!!!!" and "stonnnnnners man" .... what extreme reactions can we get by showing the most extreme people and culture we can find. exploitation really....taking things out of context to paint one deminsonal layers. NOW - lol, i have no idea who did this, or their intentions so i can not say that its only about money, or about spreading the wrong messages, and im not trying to throw accusations around...just feel that things like this must be considered. i gotta look at and consider all sides i would like to see it. hehe. no infact i would LOVE to see it.
I do believe that dreads are different. They do add characteristics to you and all BUT. Smoking pot because of your hair shouldn't make you, YOU. I do smoke pot I do have dreads, I do listen to Janis Joplin Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley (i think it explains enough.) But making a trailer that makes us ALL look like pot smoking hippies is kinda wrong.
That dreadhead trailer is kinda offencive. I have dreads, I consider myself A hippie, but I have never smoke pot. That film is just wrong. It's obviously not made by a guy with dreads...
It could be we all have to think, most people are raised and told that dreadlocks are dirty when they're kids so guys please remember that...
I actually met the guy who made this film on tour earlier this year. They'd just finished all the editing/packaging, and they were out selling and advertising DVDs on the lot. I got in kind of an argument with him because I didn't appreciate how he had taken it upon himself to define and characterize an entire subculture - casting it in what many will take as a negative light, simply because drugs sell dvds. Actually, shedtroll, he WAS a dreadie guy (I'll give it that much) I agree that it is a little offensive. Should have been called "tour kidz" or something, and just dedicated a part of it to discussing dreads. That's what it seems to really be anyway. I am kind of irked that the first line of the trailer is spoken by the slurred and burned-out Cosmo. I mean, I've got nothing against the guy per se, but he sure as hell doesn't represent me! I wouldn't pay to watch the film, but I would watch it. I'd probably watch it and get pissed off, though.
