    borders
i chose religion though since thats also a sort of border
but all the problems in the world root from us and them attitude
greed included since that stems from mine/yours

wellit was hard to narrow it to 1 problem
but if i had to examine it firther and had a lil leway on the 1-2 words thing (btw i dont understand the resources option, since resourcesarent a problem at all, if theres inteligence behind theyre use/misuse and not just greed)
but i'm off alittle ok.. the problems can be narrowed down tothese

1: borders..or anything that creates the illusion of seperation which includes racism sexism nationalism and so on anytime you reffer to a group of people as they instead of we.. if you look at the world as a whole..one people you eliminate hate and war..how can you have a war with ourselves
2 greed.. or more specificaly arbitrary values.. assigning a worth to an item.. then transfering that worth to people possessing said item
3; governments..all taking the responcibility for creatting rules to live by out of the hands of the people a a whole

solution 1 global self governing council of all people.. and a needs based not assigned value based barter system

    Greed, religion.

You need to make it possible to make more than one response for the poll. Political problems have numerous causes and the notion that causes and solutions can be characterized with one or two words is one of the problems--- so shall we say, "stupidity"?

I chose resources because even though there is an abundance of them, the rich countries seem to fight over them a lot

I believe that the worlds problems are cause by the Western Civilizations, the industrialized nations of the world. We are abundant in every resource and yet we always want more, we are greedy and spoiled and we don't even realize how lucky we have it.

Many of the world's political probems are caused by people in power thinking that social interations are based on a few factors, each of which can be explained in a few words. These people the seek the few simple explainations for complex problems which are, in fact, caused by many complex factors.

Oh you are a wit !

But I didnt think we were going to solve the worlds problems here - I just wanted to know what specific subject in one word could sum up what interest in politics they had

I mean if someone asked me what area of science I think about most I could say
methodology but it doesnt explain much more than the fact that I think about methodology - I put down 2 words or less coz I wasnt much interested in knowing what they thought - as much as what they thought about.

    OK, a serious responce.

I think that many problems are caused by an improper amount of planning.

    An example,

It is good to plan ahead and store grain for the winter and aim to, after a few years, have enough stored grain for a year long drought.

However, taking the position "We must have 10 years of grain by the end of this season" leads to a bad situation. (Perhaps even a war with neighbors to get their grain.)

Perhaps another way of expressing my concern is that following a (good) abstract goal leads to ignoring a real situation. (Abstract "save for the future" vs. reality "My neighbor will need grain this winter.)

This following an abstraction to the point of ignoring reality is a cause of many problems. An example is that "freedom for Iraqis" makes it OK to kill real babies in Iraq. ("Its not the bombadier's fault they died, he was just following orders and spreading freedom.")

The Elite who run the world, which almost everyone on this board is oblivious to. They think George Bush is running the show and think if only Barak Obama gets into office, they'll be saved.

What problems, just life as far as I can see, if its not one thing it'll be another, we are just obsessed with cause and affect.
