I need a few good recipes that I can try that my familly will like as well. Wwe're southerners so my family loves chicken and fish is a favorite as well. Anyway, I would love a good recipe such as the one drumminmamma pster about her vegetable soup! That souded delicious! Anyway, so here are a few things I don't like: onions, celery, usually dont like baked food, extremely spicy food, guacamoli, beets, most citrus fruit (too sour), desserts which includ fruit (ie pineapple upside down cake) Here's what I do like: carrots, apples, grapes, pastas, lemmons (i like them with salt), Shrimp (Love to make Kabobs!) If anyone has any great ideas for me I would appreciate. It's so hard to sorth tough tons of online cripes and most of htem I'm not ready to try yet. I till live at home so the foods we eat have to be omin friendly! at least so I can pick around the meats!
vegweb.com Totally the way to go, just search through the section on say 'carrots' and you'll find loads of ideas. My favourite easy pasta dish * boil up some pasta of your choice (100 grams per person) * steam some asparagus (or sautee mushrooms if asparagus is out of season) then chop into bite size chunks. * soak sundried tomatoes then chop into small pieces (a generous handful is enough for four people) * throw everything into a huge bowl/pan, and stir in plenty of pesto. * Serve it with a bean salad (or the omnis could have chicken), and some fresh bread. I've road tested on my omni folks and they love it. For the bean salad just throw a few diffrent kinds of beans [e.g chickpeas] into a pan, then heat them through with a bit of olive oil and seasoning of your choice (garlic, mixed herbs, whatever).
www.theppk.com has lots of easybut good vegan recipies. It won't kill the omnis to have a veg meal. Really. or, there is the last minute stir fry option: make a stirfry of the veggies you eat with a mild sauce, then in a smaller pan, stir fry a bit of flesh for the omnis. better yet, have the omnis stir fry enough for two meals, place in a zip loc and heat it through as they want to add it. peanut sauce covers a world of culinary sins and goofs: 1 c peanut (or other nut) butter 1 c vegetable stock spices of choice heat until thin, adding broth if need be. this is wicked on steamed green beans with red peppers and chard. it also goes over pasta as "Rainbow Thai."
I love the simplicity of htat pasta dish, ive bgen veg for jsut over amonth now and i am looking for more recipes taht are as simple as that
I like to serve a pasta when I know I'm going to have omni company over. It's "safe" because just about everyone likes pasta, and you don't "need" the meat to make the meal seem complete. A favorite bread & some sparkling juice makes it fancy without putting too much effort into things, and dessert can be as fancy or laid-back as you want. EVERYTHING goes with pasta Spaghetti is fun "taco" spaghetti is a bit more adventurous; add salsa instead of your typical sauce, and toss in any of your other favorite taco toppings you have on hand and things like Asian noodle bowls are pretty easy to toss together as well other fun things could be a greek salad, veggie chili or minestrone with cornbread, or grilled veggies with a rice pilaf Dessert is your chance to let yourself go & really have fun. My favorite desserts are all chocolate, pumpkin or apple based... the one my kids constantly beg for though, is one of the easiest to throw together. Baked apples are quick & complement just about everything. Core your apples & stick them in an oven-safe glass dish. Stuff the middles with brown sugar, cinnamon, & raw oats. (I usually add a little nutmeg & clove too, but we like spice) Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes or until the skins start to peel back, and serve hot. love, mom
that was a main circle dish at the '96 National Rainbow Gathering. other pasta sauces include pureed winter squash spiced to taste, all tomato sauces, even pureed white beans for a vegan white sauce. oh, stoop: canned beans, canned tomatoes and pasta or barley heated through until it is almost too hard to stir (95 gathering, Stoop kitchen) one batch was Indian spiced, one was Mexican/ Tex Mex/ Ranchero spiced. At home I add greens to this. Avocado tacos: shells/ tortillas, avacado slices or guacamole, lettuce (the darker the better, or cabbage), chopped tomatoes, chopped onion, olives, mock sour cream (tofutti's rocks) and salsa. arrange as a taco bar for get togethers, add tvp for a fake meat taco. Cheese is your call. I have rennet free. I've also used a light dusting of nutritional yeast.
VegCooking.com has some easy recipes. I find that omnis usually like fake meat like boca burgers, tofurky, etc. That site has a lot of recipes with fake meats and a searchable recipe database.

I'm so afraid of fake meats. The smell is so horrible. At least, the morningstar burgers they serve at Burger King are retch worthy
