here are some facts..... -he is against oral/anal sex, but going to a prostitute is ok (!) -he is not a vegetarian -the cia has helped him to escape tibet and cia has helped finansially his exile government in india, DL's brother is said to have helped cia to take in weapon inside tibet (when the commnunist where seen as a threat by the US) to create a guerilla this is just the beginning, i'll be back with some more info ps=remember to be openminded.... ! It is a well known fact that the CIA supplied a few weapons to his brother and other tibetans fighting against Chinese occupation. It even says so in his autobiography. The Dalai Lama, adamently opposed this because he lives by the code of non violence. He continually tried to disuade Tibetans, in many well documented public appeals, from using force against the chinese and clashed with his brother over his acceptence of help from the CIA. The CIA secretly helped because they saw another opportunity to attack the "threat" of communism but because they feared the chinese finding out they only supplied a very small amount of weapons (almost anciant british rifles so they couldn't be traced) and some very basic training. And the CIA did not help him escape. He left disguised as a tibetan soldier with a small band of his office, servants and family and got to India on horseback. Though some Tibetan Freedom fighters or "guerillas" protected him in areas of Chinese military occupation. If anything this is only embarrasing to American Policy as they completely sat by and watched China's atrocities in Tibet without concern and secretly threw in a few old guns because they were too scared to openly face the Chinese. It's no secret or shame to the Dalai Lama and anyone who is informed about his life would already know all this. He is not a vegetarian- Do you know anything about Tibet? The landscape is quite harsh and their only source of food is a type of grain and meat. Vegetables are so scarce because you can barely grow them. Also if you had the slightest idea about Tibetan Buddhism you would know they believe that eating meat is ok (as their survival depends on it) but to kill an animal for food is wrong. Even he states that it doesn't make the most sense but not everyone in the world has the luxury of an abundant vegetarian diet available to them. When he was first in exile in India he bacame a strict vegetarian and was so happy with his decision, but a year later he was very ill and both Tibetan and Indian doctors (the indians being very familiar with vegetarian health) both told him that he must eat meat to be healthy. He regrets not being able to be a vegetarian, and advocates it as the preferable choice for those on the spiritual path. As for the oral and anal sex, what major religion in the world does say it's ok? And the prostitute thing is completely untrue... Don't believe everthing you read on the net, people just dont always have the facts straight. Now I'm not a buddhist but there is this very common trend where people project their own open-mindedness on to the Dalai Lama and then get shocked when he says oral sex is sexual misconduct! It's very amusing. I think the original poster needs to understand that she is only shocked because she made some uninformed assumtions about the Dalai Lama. Its not like he goes around speaking about free love and is secretly against it. He is a buddhist monk! which means he is Celibate! which means like monks of all religious denominations, he frowns upon sexual acts for the sake of pleasure alone! I'd recommend that you read "freedom in exile" where he openly speaks about all these so called "shadows" in great detail. Peace
THE DALAI LAMA HAS SAID THAT IT IS OK TO GO TO A PROSTITUTE, IF IT IS PAID BY YOURSELF, AND NOT BY A THIRD PART. STOP DENYING FACTS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! well , as I said "echo", "remember to be open minded". if you truly beleive in truth and not myth, do some SERIOUS RESEARCH. i have been to daramsala twice, i many of my friends are buddhists.... we need to open our eyes. they say, sometimes, "love is blind"..... buddhism is really a big thing right now, and we dont really consider it a religion..... why????
Tibetan Buddhism is not like the washed out western buddhism you and your friends know. It states that sex for any other purpose than having children is wrong. I don't see how having sex with a prostitute is "for beggetting children". My mind is open, I am not a buddhist, but I know buddhist monks (zen and thai) and I have no affiliation to the dalai lama, I just saw some uninformed "facts" and corrected them. You my freind have clearly prjected your own ideals about buddhism onto the Dalai Lama without knowing the slightest about his life or Tibetan Buddhism except maybe reading those little books of Dalai Lama qutes. You said these things were shadows, but they are quite well known so I was just letting people know that so they could work it out for themselves. Its not personal, heaps of people I know get upset when the dalai lama says homosexuality, sex at night, oral etc is sexual misconduct but as I said it's just a case of misdirected projection. Maybe you could do some research into that, it helped me because we all have done/are doing it. My real name is Echo so I dont see why you put it in inverted commas.
