It was too cold when I was up in oregon, I just didnt have the appropriate gear with me for that kind of weather, so I started heading south, I might make it up there one of these days, eventually I would like to hitch all 50 states.
well, if you make it to the SW coast of Washington State, you look me up, you have a free camping spot on my property.
thailand cambodia india (mostly india, and that's where i plan to start living: it's so cheap and i can still find some freaks there, in europe many freaks are almost on the verge of being a bum, in india, you can live cheaply, have your own freaky/intersting lifstyle, but still have a certain amount of "healty vibe" about you...)
I got pretty much the same feeling..but i can't afford to travel so much, especially out of Europe..plus there's no way to teach italian abroad as easily as for english native speakers..anyway i may do it as "teaching english as second language", I know a freind of mine doing it in Thailand and she's italian; and I don't think she can speak english so much better..a question: is there a real gain, or do you just pay your expenses away?
I don't think there is a real long-term gain travelling any distance over what it takes to do business and get supplies in my case. But everybody is a unique child of God.
once i started travelling, i relalized how boring my s c friendz at home were, becauz, they weren't really my friends. i have ALWAYS felt alienated before, but i really mindfucked myself so i would love those around me. Now, i am much more loving as person, to REAL people, not the robots..... i was a robot a became human, that is what travelling has done to me.... but i don't thonk it works for everybody, because when i travel, i am not on vacation, i am on a learning journey, and sometimes, it's really NOT fun, and it's difficult. It's not for everybody.
Even when travelling is difficult, and it can be, it's all about the experiences. I had hard days where I was squashed into a packed sweaty bus for 12 hours on the worst roads ever ending up in the middle of nowhere is some dusty, smelly, mosquito infested shithole and I could've nearly cried by the end of it all but I'd still have preferred going through that than having been in an office from 9-5. It's all highs & lows when you travel, but that's what's great about it.
I love sitting in packed, sweaty busses for hours on end to end up in some shithole in the middle of nowhere. Those are the experiences I live for. The interaction with people, the sight of the landscape crawling by, the atmosphere of chaos and tranquility, the amazing food, the pure pleasure of sitting down in some godforgetten place and getting out my guitar to play some tunes. That is my drug. Then again, I love to be a beachbum as well for weeks on end after some hardcore travelling and before some hardcore travelling. And during it. What greater joy is there than sitting on a beautiful white-sand beach with swaying palmtrees, the smiling, glorious yellow sun and the breathtaking crystal clear blue or greenish water of the ocean and hearing its sweet, salty whisper? Just one and a half week and I am off for some travelling again, I guess some people here can imagine how relieved I will be when I am leaving this 9 to 5 society behind me again. Or, as someone here said before, leaving the robot-world behind. Travelling for me is not a way of life, it is life.
Spacer, freakon, bird migration......yeah augie and I are writing chapter one on learning and experiences as part of travel and living somewhere different for awhile, I just posted living in a tent here to try and give people an idea. I'll be posting some additions in the about the ins and outs from both perspectives on this idea.
Great to hear this man, hope you have a really good time, I'll be off again soon aswell, I can understand your relief alright. Drop by with the odd post! Where are you off to?
I fly to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and other than that I have no plans nor ideas. Where are you going to yourself?
I'd like to go to Malaysia, especially Borneo. I'm going to fly to Quito in Ecuador and will probably work me way down South America. I should be going the end of next month if all goes to plan.
