hey guys, so im 16 and i need to start looking for a job. just wondering what jobs you guys did around my age? Whats out there man? -peace
I would reccomend retail at your age. It's a good start for a young teenager and who knows by the time you reach 18 or maybe older you could become a store manager and be a trainee manager. The world is your oyster love, it's up to you what you do with it Take care .VP. XOXO
At that age, I delivered phone books and worked for the city parks department watching the new basketball court so kids wouldn't tear it up.
god ive applied at at least 20 places, and ive gotten nothing. im gettin more than a little discouraged, especuially with all my friends pulling jobs out of there asses and getting fuckin rich
Im not sure about 16, but later on definately get a job as a waiter. My cousin did when he was like 18/19 at some nice restaurants (inbetween fancy and casual) and he must of been good. He's told me stories of how there'd be this big group of people, and he'd give them like great service and get a 100 tip.
at 16 i worked in a burger king.... it sucked but it was money. and i babysat often. and made money through my photography and web design..
At 16 i worked at a movie theatre that paid shit but was a lot of fun. ~ If you like movies i'd recommend it. Most of the people who worked there were 16 or 17 and for most it was their first job.
I worked at a Canadian Tire, half the time working in the Part's department, the other half busting tires in the garage.
Workin' on a dairy farm. Milk cows, shovel shit, keep the milkhouse clean, toss hay, drive tractor. Barely made enough $ to make it worth while, but REALLY got in shape, had free milk, and lots of other side benefits. Probably pays more now...
I worked at a go-karts place. Hells yeah, I said. So that was interesting. Having a cigar at work, just taking it easy. hahah memories!
Restaurant = default career. You can and will get hired within a week or two. You can make up to $50,000 per year, eventually. Enough said about what type of employment you should seek. Bus-boy is the best place to start. With any luck you will receive "tip-out's" from the servers. You can soon move into serving which can support you forever, or until you complete college / trade school. Walk in to about 10 restaurants and ask for an application. Fill out the application's and when you return to turn them in, ask to speak to the hiring manager. Look him or her in the eye and tell them that not only CAN you learn to do this job, but you WANT to do this job. BOOM...you are hired. Of course I am guessing that you won't return to this thread and see this advice.
I was a janitor man, look that one up. People are always looking for someone to clean up their shit, god knows they won't do it. Pay is good (adverage 9/hr) and the work is fun. You work with a pretty close knit group of people, and if you can land a job buffing/waxing floors you really have some good times...ahh..riding the automatic scrubber...good times. lol, seriously you can make decent money for your age, and I'm still doing it in college so maybe it's as good as working in a restaurant...also almost everyone smokes..so getting high before work is totaly possible, and if you get a cool floor manager maybe you can even burn one at work...keep it in mind man. And I agree with the above post, let them know you want the job and WILL learn how to do it...
You might be able to live and work on a commune/intentional community. I spose your parents would have to agree, the community would have to be willing to accept someone your age and don't plan to make much money, but the experience would be worth it. Check out http://ic.org/ for a list of communities.
