Our New Forming Raw ecovillage--an Intentional Community

Hi Friends,

I have started this blog to tell others of our forming intentional community and ecovillage of like minded individuals that eat simply and dream of preserving the earth and having great companions throughout your life journey. We are forming in Northern BC around Fort St. John BC. We are seeking others that may be interested in joining us on this exciting adventure. Presently my family is still living in Calgary AB, but plan to have the community in its starting phase in spring 2007. Right now we thought best to find others who are interested and it gives both parties time to interact or talk and get to know eachothers before moving onto the land.
A little about our family. There is my husband 27 yrs old, me 26 yrs old and our children 6 yr old son and 2 yr old daughter.
Our vision: The future community has 5-10 full time adult members and children, who live year round on the land with their families. The community is can have co-housing or single family units and based on a permaculture design. Earth friendly houses such as strawbale or log, etc. There will be a mixture of ages, skills, talents, for diversity and stability and to learn from eachother. Some will work full time on the land, others contribute via full or part time employment in town. Everybody participates according to their capacity towards infrastructure, land stewartship and expecially food growing and processing. A board of members would be who live on the land full time will be made and all ideas or rules will be by consensus. Travis and I have quite a broad range of skills: food growing and preserving, raw food classes, machanics, daycare and teaching, etc., use of medicinal herbs, energy healing, farming.
We also plan to run a retreat on the land with guest cabins and workshops. We were also thinking about eventually having a co-op farming or renting out garden plots for people in town. Plans for a large sledding hill or small ski hill are in our heads too.

As you can tell, many plans, little amount of people. So if your are interested in having a peice of our dream and mixing it with your dreams please email us at raw_ecovillage@yahoo.ca and tell us a bit about your self and what your dreams are. We would also love to hear from other communities on success and hardships of starting up. We were thinking about the first 5 families with similar dreams would have no membership fees or costs at all, just cost of eventually building a house which could be helped with as well. After our first 5 families, if we decided on more then we can arrange membership costs or small land purchasing.
