    Chill out

Firstly are you trying to turn your braids into dreads? This is do-able but they will always look like braids until you dread the new growth. I've found it to be a hard and slightly pointless way of locking hair, as there is not room for the hair to move and knot. Also are they braided tightly? If so this will explain the pressure on you roots and the bumps and sore scalp.

Secondly you can get knotty boy bar shampoo online or from ebay if you google it. You can also use Neutrogena anti-residue shampoo which you can get anywhere, and you can use the bar shampoos from Lush (might be worth asking them if they are definitely no residue but I'm sure they are).

Also for your scalp, use a little tea tree or rosemary oil, dabb on with cotton wool. DON'T DO THIS IF your scalp has lots of sores or open cuts on it as it will hurt like hell. It's very unlikely you have an infection. Using a shampoo bar with tea tree in it regularly will help with the itchies.

Yeah, braids into dreads is a tough process and I've honestly seen it messed up more times than I've seen it work...

As for the itchiness, if you don't have any open sores or anything, I' try making a vitamin E rinse for your scalp. Break open a vitamin E capsule into a cup of hot water, and give it a few drops of rosemary and/or tea tree oil. Mix it up pretty good and pour it over your head. Or you could put it into a spray bottle and do it that way (just remember, the vitamin oil will want to separate more once th concoction cools)

    Good luck and happy knotting!
