I don't know any atheist that thinks they can prove god doesn't exist. However, I imagine it would take no greater leap of faith to claim that purple people eaters don't exist.
How many esablished organizations are there that proclaim the existence of purple people eaters? How many people have professed being 'touched,' 'healed,' etc. by purple people eaters? You get the point. I'm no theist, but I've never found the argument "believing in God is like believing in unicorns" very cogent.
Okay, lets go with more established myths. Vampires, alien abductions, elves, santa claus, fairies, buddha, zeus, ra, shiva, the boogeyman, I could go on for a long time...should we believe them all because one can't necessarily prove they don't exist and many people believe they do? Is it a leap of faith on every popular myth to not believe it even though others do? It's the belief in the myth that requires the leap of faith. Lack of belief is just that, a lack of belief. Trying to spin that into faith is just the faithful's desperate argument to a non-believer. That, and a complete misunderstanding of atheism.
Atheists don’t need to prove anything. Have you ever heard about burden of proof? Say someone accused me of stealing their car and during their testimony it was discovered that they lied about what kind of car they even had. Their credibility is shot so everything they say is worthless, case thrown out. According to Christians, their God supposedly created the world and man in 6 days. Science has determined that dinosaurs walked the land for 60 Millions years, died off and man never appeared for another 20 Million years after that. This leaves Christians scrambling for more excuses. It all comes down to what makes more sense. The bible has no credibility, plain and simple. There is absolutely no reason for any logical mind to come to the conclusion that a Christian God exists. Now watch out for some bible maniac to come post two pages of nonsense about some new interpretation of genesis! LOL!!
There is no real 'interpretation' of Genesis. It describes real, literal, actual events. For example, that the world was created in six days and dinosaurs (well everything) existed after that. Watch some evofundie post two pages of pseudoscience excuses trying to deny it LOL!!
God -by, Carol Ann (Rouse) Gallegos I am one with God God is the energy that can not be created or destroyed. He is the energy that was here before the big bang. He is the energy that will be here long after your body is dust. God is the energy that brings the atoms and molecules together to create solid matter God is the energy that gives you life. The Holy Ghost. You are a part of that energy. You are one with GOD. When you work against that energy (by stealing), you’re working against your self. All the basic Newtonian laws of physics apply to the spiritual realm realm as well. Think about your KARMA. Remember that for every action there's an equal and opposite reaction. In every tribe, in every group of people there are seers, sages, psychics, holy men who converse with god. These men read Gods pure thoughts. There are no words. God doesn’t speak any particular language. Although he can speak all languages. These Holy Men translate Gods pure thoughts into their own language and filter it through their own culture and customs and then form a religion around these thoughts. All religions are based on these same ideas. But each translation comes out just a little bit different. One religion may call it Karma while another may call it the golden rule. But originally it was the same idea or thought. Religions all were formed in order to teach men to strive to be more god like. It said that Jesus is “the way, the light.” I translate that to mean, He knows the way to enlightenment. Jesus said, “follow me and I will make your path straight” What he meant was that if you follow his example your road through life will be smother or easier. Jesus has empowered you to perform miracles. Jesus said, “these things (miracles) that I do so can you and more” Religion is not just a tool to control the masses but a way to learn to be better people, more God like. I guess that it would help to better understand the basic Newtonian laws of physics so that you can learn how to manipulate the energy in your live to your benefit. The Newtonian laws of physics are the scientific laws of motion. For example, a body in motion will continue to be in motion unless another force acts against it. It also includes inertia and kinetic energy = potential energy. There are rule like the 10 commandments. And we know were suposta follow these rules, because they’re the rules. Right? But the reason to follow these rules is not just because they told me to, but because all the energy of the universe is connected. That energy is in every atom and molecule. Therefore everything is effected by the way the energy flows. That energy is effected by the basic scientific Newtonian laws of physics. Not just that “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction” as in KARMA, but inertia for example, is like when something is going in a certain direction it will continue in that direction unless another energy acts against it. Let’s say that someone is doing pretty well in life. Every thing seems to be going in a good direction. And then, he gets in a car wreck, or gets fired from his job (another energy acting against him) changes his direction. Man has the ability to use his willpower to change his life’s direction too. He is not just at the mercy of the winds of change. You must be careful to not hang out with the wrong friends too, or else you may get sucked in the vacuum end up going the wrong direction. You may find yourself riding along in a stolen car for example, when the car thief gets pulled over, all of you go to jail, not just the driver. Don’t condone negative behavior. Stand up for what you know is right, even when it’s not popular. by, Carol Ann (Rouse) Gallegos ROB BREZSNEY SACRED ADVERTISEMENT Evil is boring. The universe is friendly. Life is on your side. Joy is your birthright. Cynicism is idiotic. Fear is a bad habit. Despair is lazy. In fact, all of creation wants you to succeed. Act as if the universe is a prodigious miracle created for your amusement and illumination. Assume that secret helpers are working behind the scenes to assist you in turning into the gorgeous masterpiece you were born to be. Retrain your senses and intellect so you’re able to perceive the fact that life always gives you exactly what you need, exactly when you need it. “If there were no creator There would be nothing created.”
First off, how is Buddha a myth? And second off, watching a child being born, having a feeling of connection with the whole world, unconditional love, all these things could lead to the belief in something higher than ourselves. "Could" is the key word. How one gets from that to, say believing in Christ I have no idea. How do any of the above mentioned experiences have anything to do with vampires, boogeyman, etc? You don't believe in God, that is fine, I don't blame you. But that doesn't mean God gets categorized with other myths in which subsequently we wonder if we should believe in any of them or not. That is to assume the non-existence of God and then to say it is illogical to believe in It.
Iconoclast. hehehehhheee.. Yes..god created everyting to look like it evolved... And made us smart enought to see such...LOL. Well..some of us... Occam
I know if you have supporting evidence, then you don't have faith IMO, you have knowledge backed up by fact. But where is the athiests supporting evidence backed up by fact? Besides, facts often change. It was once considered a fact that the earth was at the centre of the universe till Copernicus came along. I know its hard to put science and faith into the same catergory sometimes, but if you look into the epistemological and ontological assumptions that we make about reality it becomes clearer. How can athiests be so certain that there was not a god creator, or a teleological plan to the universe? If you have opinions, conclusions, suspisions and thoughts, doesn't that require faith as well?
You obviously don't understand the atheist position in the matter. Just because we don't have an answer doesn't mean we should assume the answer is a god. Does that take faith? No. What takes faith is to assume that what we don't know is attributed to some god. We don't believe something just because it could be. That isn't faith, that is a lack of faith.
Not dumb enough to believe in Evolutionism though, the most horrific of all antiscientific belief systems on the planet. At least Genesis is based on actual human history, people, places. Sure, 150 years ago you could be forgiven for doubting that but now, in the modern world with astonishing archeoelogical discoveries, you can only be an ignoramus to think otherwise. You do realise that is whats happening in modern science right? No, you dont.
Agnotisism is the only logical way.Atheists are believers. They BELIEVE there is/are no god/s.Theists BELIEVE there is/are god/s.We agnostics are open minded about the situation and are open to -------whatever.
There isn't just one atheist position. There is strong and weak atheism. What you're describing seems to be weak atheism, which is not believing in God because you haven't seen any evidence of God's existence. Whereas strong atheists deny that God could even possibly exist. Everyone believes in at least something just because it could be.
Yes Evolution happens all about us. But because it is a generational process..slow we barely percieve it. But when looking at short life / bacteria-viruses We see it Example 50 years back there was no antibiotic resistant TB bacteria. Now there is Did god create this new bacteria? Cause it did not exist before.. now it does. No.. its natural enviroment, humans, changed the enviroment within themselves with antibiotics...natural selection occured. Evolution [sorry to spell it out but some need it spelled out in simple words] Occam
