This has been bugging me for quite some time and I really need to know: Is Morphine active if you ingest it orally, or does the liver actually inactivate it? I hear the latter is correct mostly, but I'm really not sure. Also, any other prescription opiates inactivated by the liver? It'd be nice to know which ones work that way and which ones don't.
As far i as know (from experience), morphine does in a way get destroyed in your liver. I have done liquid (50 mg) morphine sulphate which didnt do anything but then took 4 (15 mg a piece) tabs (prolly morphine HCl) and i was pretty bent. I think the HCl works better because it absorbs faster cuz its more soluble than a sulfate. The HCl dissolved faster so it reached the bloodstream quicker. Also taking morphine orally has like a cap where it levels off at a certain amount because of the fact that the liver starts to metabolize it quicker than you can absorb it.
Yes, about 90% (I think) of morphine is destroyed by the liver when taken orally. I took a 30mg pill and it wasn't half as good as it should have been. Oral morphine is a horrible waste.
ive had morphine sulfate pills. they are fucking awesome i did so much i got addicted-not fun. but like. yeah its the shit
