The Mafia & Smugglers are into narcotics, not marajuana. Yeah, those rebels in South America are nasty but its not marajuana thats funding them. Its cocaine. I wonder what percent of American weed is imported from overseas?
Table 7. U.S. Arrival Zone Seizures of Marijuana, in Kilograms, 2001-2004 2001 2002 2003 2004 Southwest Border 1,059,037 (8,323 seizure incidents) 1,034,635 (6,788 seizure incidents) 1,300,128 (6,855 seizure incidents) 1,102,925 (9,560 seizure incidents) Northern Border 3,601 (42 seizure incidents) 8,370 (73 seizure incidents) 11,183 (70 seizure incidents) 9,236 (166 seizure incidents) Source: El Paso Intelligence Center Mexican criminal groups control most wholesale marijuana distribution throughout the United States; however, Asian criminal groups appear to be increasing their position as wholesale distributors of Canada-produced marijuana. According to law enforcement reporting, Mexican DTOs and criminal groups control most wholesale marijuana distribution in the Great Lakes, Pacific, Southeast, Southwest, and West Central Regions and control much of the wholesale marijuana distribution in the Northeast Region. Although Asian criminal groups are not the predominant wholesale marijuana distributors in any region, these groups, particularly Chinese and Vietnamese groups, now are widely identified in law enforcement reporting as the principal suppliers of high potency, Canada-produced marijuana throughout the country. Most of the foreign-produced marijuana available in the United States is smuggled into the country from Mexico via the U.S.-Mexico border by Mexican DTOs and criminal groups; however, a sharp rise in marijuana smuggling from Canada via the U.S.-Canada border by Asian criminal groups has increased the domestic availability of marijuana produced in Canada. Arrival Zone seizure data indicate that most (96.7% in 2004) marijuana seized at or between U.S. POEs is seized along the U.S.-Mexico border from private further indicate that marijuana seizures along the U.S.-Canada border--typically, seizures of high potency marijuana--have nearly tripled since 2001, although they are still much lower than seizures along the U.S.-Mexico border--and that the number of seizure incidents reached its highest recorded level in 2004, notwithstanding a decrease in the total amount seized in 2004 (see Table 7). This trend is likely to continue, particularly if a greater number of domestic users are introduced to higher potency marijuana.
Slice - Mornin'! Being as this is a forum, is there an opinion with your question or are you just looking for source information?
no i dont think so hah but i have a theory, you know the more people buy marijuana the more money stays out of circulation, away from the government who spends it funding the wars. SO BUY MARIJUANA!!! haha thats my dumbass theory
Actually apparently Al-Quaeda uses marijuana as fences and stuff. And considering they have the perfect climate year-round, I don't see why it wouldnt be supporting them. Also many shipments of weed/hash in europe are from the middle east.
Twizz - I believe you might want to recheck your info on weed and the Middle East. Hashish, yes. Different drug, different plant. Also, you might want to recheck your info about what Al Queda does, and doesn't do when it comes to their activities in communities. Looking forward to reading what you find if you'll share it with us.
Timetraveler: Thanks for the info. I was mistaken in thinking sumgglers had opted out of the bulky MJ trade in favor of more compact narcotics. The news is always populated with lurid stories of extasty, cocaine and heroin smuggling and arrests. The information does bring up a few secondary concerns beyond funding terrorist groups who are hostile to The US and other nations; Think about how this contributes to our trade deficit & balance of payments. Think about all of the tax revenue that the US goverment is mising out on. I think its time to re-visit post #11 where Ranger Danger posted on the advisability of increased domestic growing to "keep it in house" :toetap:
