i gotta nice bushy moma, young though like 5 weeks and i wanna take clones of here real bad, i was wondering if its too ealry to take clones?
i actually dont even know if its a female, but still i just wanna know i guess i just wanna know how early i can tkae clones?
Does it have alternating nodes? No preflowers at all? You can always take clones, if its a male, then give the free loading clone the boot too. If it is a female, you are all set to flower if ya wanted. I usually wait till alternating or super healthy. Xtbudda...
At this stage I Often top the plant taking about the top 4 inches off to make one clone. It isn't necessary that the nodes be alternating to take a clone. Taking this center growth will tend to make the plant branch more and if vegged longer several clones could be taken if the first could have shown sex as yet. BOG
The first several sets of branches or leaves come out of the main stem exactly opposite of each other in even pairs. At some point (within a few weeks) they start comming out staggered, alternating, first on one side then the other. Once the branches or leaves start to appear in this "back and forth" pattern they are refered to as alternating nodes; that's the sign of sexual maturity - ready for cloning or flowering. It is my understanding that the plants pre-disposition to be male or female is not "set" untill it's nodes alternate. Meaning that if you take a clone from an immature plant it could turn out to be a different sex than the doner (mother) plant - given a disimilar environment. I realize that you can take clones or force flowering before the plant alternates it's nodes but isn't there a certain level of uncertainty there? BOG, perhaps you could clarify this point?
man these mother fucks almost been veggin for 5 weeks and they have no alternating nodes at all, none of them, i got the ak48's and nl's from nirvana. (props to nirvana btw)
i took clones of the plants, but within a few hours they wilted over, so i figured they were in no shape to survive after that... i tossed em, dont know if that was the smart thing though but it seemed right at the moment
They are going to wilt over for a little bit. Were they big in size? Do you have a dome for clones or a way to provide humanity? Are you using any rooting gel, root hormone powder, etc ? If they are not completely destroyed, you might be able to recover them. Xtbudda...
Each people have different methods for humidity. Myself, I use a small dome and sometimes clear plastic glasses. Clear plastic glasses, put clone in one (i use jiffy peat pellets for clones) and then flip over another clear plastic glass and put on top, use tape, to keep top to bottom secure. Before closing top, spray water into the glass on the top end. Basically, you want to create an environment, where the plant is not depending on its water source from straight water, rather water absorption thru its leaves. The humidity will keep pellet moist and somewhat airy, verses water sogged and roots can take off then. You really dont want alot of leaves on the clone clipping, ie: large fan leaves as the clone will concentrate alot of efforts on absorbing light for the leaf instead of growing roots. several times open for fresh air exchange. Heating pads also work good too, as a colder medium, roots will take longer. Try different ways if you have enuf clones, and you will see, which one works best for your setup. Hopefully, BOG or someone else will pipe in their methods. Xtbudda...
haha yea, i actually put them under a heat mat, i didnt water them too much eithr (i packed them in some soil, ff ocean), i just igured thought when they were all shrivled that they were just to young to make it and keeled over, guess its just a newb mistake...
Personally I never liked domes. I clone using the foam rubber cones that fit in the trays that have a drainage hole for each one. Its easy and they take about 1 week to show a tap root. Rockwool is bad for you. I do use KLN and Eleanors Gel. BOG
I will get a picture of the rapid rooter foam cones that fit into trays. Fiberglas was something I never worried about until recently when I was told that it could be harmful to grow your plants in it. I done really know if its even true. Fiberglas isnt really a natural fiber however and the little bits could be toxic but mainly its harder to root than the foam. IMHO that is. BOG
