We have decided to keep em',but I have a major concern for them right now. I was looking at different websites on how to take care of new born kittens, and one site mentioned that if the kittens pee is yellow, that means it's dehydrated and it could die!The kittens pee is yellow! I'm giving them some formula I got at a pet store, but I'm not sure if it helps hydrate the little dudes! Can the kittens have water? One of the sites said you can give them pedia-lite(sp?) to hydrate them, but is that ok to give new borns or is it only for older kittens?Their only a few days old(eyes are still closed). Help! Some of those sites are not specific!
I'd get them to the vet and get them checked out. They'll tell you exactly what you need to do. You are going to have to feed them every 2-3 hours with that formula, I think it should keep them hydrated, but it's possible that they were dehydrated before you found them. Take them to the vet to make sure everything is cool, plus it will start you on the good habit of taking your animals to the vet anyway. Also remember to keep those babies warm! Good luck!
Are you feeding them with a bottle (one made especially for li'l kitties)? You should be if you aren't already. I would definitely take them to the vet like mlo said. That will ensure greater chances for their survival. Poor li'l bubs... I wonder what happened to their mama. Are you keeping your eye out for her? She may come back around looking for them.
I was thinking the same thing about the mom possibly coming back for them. She might have been hunting for food or luring something bad away from her babies.
We have raised kittens before with great luck. You just have to feed them a lot. Probably more than you think you should. My youngest sister has a cat that my other sister raised. He was only 3 ounce when they found him after a flood. They fed him with an eye-dropper. The vet said he would not live, but he did. He is almost 6 years old now. He has some other issues, but he is healthy. My daughter & I raised a kitten just this past summer and he is fine. My advice is to feed them as frequently as you can and keep them warm. Keep trying solid food until they will take it. Best wishes
Me and my mom have been taking care of them..Man is it alot of work! My mom went to a pet store and got some formula & bottles for them, and some advice on how to take care of them.I've been going on websites to get some kitten care info too(has helped out alot!). The only trouble we have had is with trying to get them to poop.We rub their belly, butt, genitals and it works sometimes, but we usually find turds inside their box,or all over themselves! They usually just pee after their meal. We're not too sure if the mother left them for good or not,but me & my sister have seen a grey cat near our house before, and we all know for sure that there is a orange/white cat that hangs around the neighborhood. My dad said that theres a really big orange cat around here too,but the orange one that we all have seen is just average size. One kitty is orange & white, another is a beige/with white, and the 3rd is spotted with different colors,black,orange/brownish,with some white. I think we've might of saved these kittens lives, cause theres a possum that snoops around the neighborhood.I heard that they will kill the kittens if they see them...Plus it's getting cold around here.
aww you saved kitties.. that's so sweet. try givin' them a lick of somm for constipation i did it for my rats. good luck!
hej... take good care of them. you know.... it's never you who chooses the animals, they choose you, remember that. it's not a coincidence, those little souls chose you and your family, so.... love them!
Just a few minutes ago there was a cat right outside our backyard door meowing and rubbing up against the screen door.Could this be the mother? The kittens look nothing like that cat. This cat was grey with white. We think one of the cats is sick.He doesn't really want to eat and it meows really softly. When we first found the kittens,he moved around and cried for food alot more. Now when we hold him he kinda just lays there on our hand, not putting up a fight like the other kittens. When the kittens are hungry, this one just kinda lays there trying to get warm, but the other kittens always crawl all over and bother him. I've been telling my mom we should take them to a vet,but she says we don't have the money for a vet right now.She wants to take them to a vet but leave them there, but I want to keep them! How much would it cost us,just to see whats wrong with the kitten(s)?
The kitty died .Now my mom is taking the other two, to some animal rescue shelter...I feel like crap .
Don't beat yourself up over it. -hug- We had a barn cat who had 3 kittens. One of them, the smallest wouldn't eat much. As time went on, he became amaciated. He came down with ear mites. We started feeding him formula and we gave him ear mite medicine for a kitten his age. We did well at taking care of him, but I walked into the room one morning to check on him...I thought he was sleeping, & I started petting him...but then I realized he was dead. He had just started getting better, too. Sometimes you do all you can, and you think you're doing well but things end badly anyways. It's just how life goes. Try not to feel too bad. I don't think it was your fault.
I'm sorry the kitty died. I know it's sad. Did you check out the kitty that came to your door? Did she appear to have milk in her breasts? Did you let her in to see if she took to the kittens? Sorry for all the questions, just wondering. Don't worry... you did your best to take care of them. I hope the other two get better and find good homes to go to.
