Everything is a sin. Sitting in front of the screen instead of praying also. Amen.

It's the same thing as drunkeness to most. I though favor legalization. People become mentally addicted to Marijuana and we put them in jail. I just think as loving caring people it's not fair. Coke, PCP, Smack, Meth etc. different ballgames. They are scary drugs that I've seen literally turn good people into monsters. While I don't think these drugs should be legal I do think there's a better way to help addicts than the route we've been taking.

Cannabis switches on the brain in a unique way, and makes people more able to think for themselves. It should come as no surprise therefore that most christians disapprove. They generally prefer the saviour's favourite, good old alcohol, which switches off the brain, degrades thinking, and props up the whole sin/repentance cycle common among alcoholics. In the Uk, catholic priests have one of the highest incidences of alcoholism of all the proffessions - only doctors and lawyers top them in the figures.

Some people claim that cannabis has led to spiritual experiences, which is another good reason for christians to frown on it - they like to keep their pretended monopoly on that sort of thing alive.

In my own experience, the herb invites you to renew your thoughts and perceptions about the everyday. It makes you look again at those things about which you believe you know everything there is to know. That is the definition of respect. To look again: re (again), spect (to look). To respect a person, thing or idea means you accept that there may be more to see than what you think you know.

While we're at this, let's rethink (literally) the meaning of the word "repent." These days it is usually disregarded as a crusty, old, meaningless religious term howled by long-dead, crazed prophets and think-by-numbers televangelists. But it literally means to re (again) pent (think). It is a very creative idea that is also one of the essential reasons wise people smoke the herb.

When you look again and think again about those everyday things that you don't even notice anymore, you often find a new, deeper meaning. The same old same old becomes new again. The herb helps with this.

A musician, for example, who rethinks of the basic ideas about melody, harmony, rhythm, tempo, timbre and so on, can create whole new forms of music and join the ranks of the truly creative, like Louis Armstrong, Monk, Miles, 'Trane and Bird, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, Michael Hedges, Stravinsky, Bach and Beethoven.

Man, That's good stuff. And if that doesn't earn, for the herb, another look and a change of mind from the Literalists and Fundamentalists, then "They know not what they're doing."

    Peace and Love

Personally, from smoking marijuana...relaxed, euphoric, silly, hungry, sometimes paranoid: yes. Spiritually perceptive experiences or awareness change: no.

In most states here in the US now, possession of small amounts of marijuana is a minor offense, but I consider it ridiculous that it's an offense at all.

I don't think fundamentalists, etc., necessarily want to keep marijuana and other hallucinogens illegal because they might open the doors to any kind of spiritual alternative to Christianity. In the US, recreational drugs of any kind have been successfully demonized as "dope" by those in elective office and those seeking office by playing on the public's fears of mental illness, addiction, and violent criminal behavior.

I forgot to answer the question.

I believe it is not a sin to enjoy the herb.

I am quite sure hemp is a gift from God, as long as you remain mindful of who gave it to you and remember always to transcend your experiences.

    Peace and Love
