As far as I'm concerned, "Error" is not an acceptable answer. Can anybody enlighten me?

    trying to remember
zero divided by one is zero
    one divided by zero error
you'd think zero by one was impossible as there wasn't anything to divide by one
you'd think that one divided by....
will have to think about this, i've forgotten the reason
this is going into the 0.9 recurring = 1 thread

    The Mighty Thor luvs wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divide_by_zero

The argument I was going to give, before I checked wikipedia is basically their argument under "Algebraic Interpretation:"

    n/d = q

    basically means that

    q*d = n

    BUT, if d = 0, then

    q*0 = n, or 0 = n,

and there is no value for q that can make a difference. Also, n may not have been given as 0. So, nothing about a divide by zero makes sense.

    In simple terms..

    1 divided by 0.5 = 2
    1 divided by 0.25 = 4
    1 divided by 0.1 = 10
    1 divided by 0.000001 = 1000000

so yeah the closer you get to 0, the closer to infiniti. or something

One way of looking at division is related to subtraction. If you count the number of times you can subtract the divisor from the number you get the results of the division. Obviously when you can subtract 0 from a number forever and still have that number so there is no finite answer. I remember using a mechanical calculator when I was in college years ago. It did division by counting subtractions. Every so often someone would try to do a divide by zero and the machine would run forever.

zero divided by any number to infinity is 0..... you cant divide a number zero times, that makes no sense, thats why its an error.

no...because you have nothing to start with, 0, then you try to divide nothing by a number...1. you can't divide nothing by something if nothing doesn't exist.

    "hey 1, go divide 0."
    "but...there's nothing there..."
    "just do it!"
    "um.....*stress* *frustration* *explode*!"

and that's why you get 0

    :D

as for anything divided by 0, listen to madcrappie
