What makes America great?

Cons say liberals and leftists make America bad, yet without those liberal and leftist elments what is America? When people come to America they wanna vist NY not texas.

people like America for it is liberal/leftist leaning culutre (ex: hollywood), universities, colleges.

 

Not really. People also immigrate to america because of its free market ideals and the enormous opportunities available for people with ambition. Foreign students aren't coming here to study Marx, they are coming here to study for a professional career.

 

what makes america grate?

is it the illegal invasions?

the carpet bombings and torture?

is it the school of assassins near west point and the training of terrorists that plant bombs on civillian airliners?

is it the secret prisons and stalinist secret police that declare peace groups enemies of the state?

is it the surprise attacks in the dead of night or shootings of farmers in their fields as they tend their crops.

geez theres so much that makes america grate, i can't choose but i'm sure when they do, do these things its all done in the best possible taste.

while I agree with soaring eagle (if pressed I say I am canadian)...you can't post (extreme) stuff like this with out any PROOF, otherwise the validity of the statements are most defiantly put into question and you are seen as just another ignorant fool spouting nonsense..so lets see the proof to back up these statement beyond just a paranoid assumption of america. and I myself may not doubt you but when you are trying to sway patriotic flag touting american citizens to your side its going to take a lot more than that! otherwise, again, it is very hard to swallow that america and stalin ties, for example.

but still theres no way to prove that will happen. WHY assume the worst? why not the best? maybe this country and its people will wake up, there is no way to predict the future. This is a very diverse country with many indivuals and I can never understand how some people can hate EVERYONE within a given country especially since it is practically a melting pot of different nationalities, its stupid and in a sense, self hating.

What makes marica proud and the best country in the WORLD, because it has made this life in what we live now, with ltos of opportunities, money, freedom, and good life, than anywhere in the world. and of course , peopel kill each otehr here, and ofc ourse drugs here and illigal immigrants, but its because we are humans. Its normal process, but what makes it great is the tendency of killings and other things along with conditions of life.

 

News flash - not all immigrants are from poor third world countries, and the ones that are still have other rich countries they could move to. Don't hold it against immigrants that they like America.

America is not great. It's not great because it is not free.

America has no respect for it's poor people or working classes, and individual liberty is a thing of the past.

It was free once. It was great once, but it is not anymore.

If we Americans fight for our beliefs and throw the corrupt politicians out of office, our nation can be great and free once again, but as of right now, those ideals of freedom and greatness are only a fantasy.

For the one who always has some smart ass remark, I'll be very serious here.

What makes America great is her art and music. We have visual and aural culture here that is envied the world over - and for a good reason. Especially in this troubling age, I think it may be our last resource and platform to effect change.

The other great strength of America: our sense of humour.

It's the Appalachian mountains, Niagara falls, Californians, The lakes of Minnesota, My redneck family, My goofy friends....

Environment and people.

As frustrated as i get with americans, i still love them.

 

Nahh... IHOP is overprized and full of cops while Denny's always seems to be empty and the waitresses are fake. In Waffle House you get truly humane service. Waitresses have told me about thier meth addictions, I actually danced with a waitress there after picking a song on the jukebox (which in itself is amazing), the food (especially the hash browns, as Shane mentioned) is wonderful and in some states you can still smoke in the Waffle House, which is a god-given pleasure.

Point being: You cannot generalize one great thing about a country so enormous and full of great things. Every place in the world is great in some way or the other... I truly do not see the point of this question.

You can put peppers, chili, cheese, mushrooms and onions on a huge plate of hash browns for cheap.

can't beat that (well, except a homecooked meal).

And yeah, no country is good or evil, it just is.
