theres a fixed sit of guidelines you MUST follow, or it will be a failure. make sure you look up the Handbook to Starting a Hippy Movement In Your Hometown, on amazon.com.

    sarcasm gets lost in translation.

I found the question hilarious because the beats and early hippie sorts looked to Tunisia and Morrocco as a wonderland.
Now, what do you want this "movement" to do?
What needs new ideas for change?
what makes you want this movement?

    simple answer
u dont gotta know how to do it

    you just gotta doit

u thinkthe 1st hippies had a clue what they were doing?
let alone look at the whole rainbow gathering thing..that was suposed to be a 1 time thing but spread all over the world..by people who had no idea what they were doing only knew it was worth doing

absolutely not..not all hippies do drugs for 1..& alotta non hip kids do drugs
its more a lifestyle a way of being a philosophy ..a fad? nope a fads wearring designer jeans.. not living your whole life dedicated to a certain lifestyle that may get you ostrecized (is that the word) & rejected by the more acceptable elements in society

    ok

What I mean...Its just the image as a child ive had of hippies is the super peace, acceptance and love and stuff...

But I see theres are still homophobic hippies, racist hippies, hippies with guns , self centered hippie...All the groups of people always have the different kind of people

Im just startin to lose belief in a certain kind of people ya know....Everyone around me is blind lol , almost

Not like ill find a bunch of hippies and start talkin bout spirituality and stuff, theres nothing as that here.

But I know what ya mean by the lifestyle is very true...Just in a drum circles you witness that.

I dont know what im lookin for...Im lookin for a way of thoughts to share ,not a lifestyle i think...

Oh , im lookin for people who are CLOSE TO THE HEART.

ah well, thats where your wrong..they are there..everywhere when u find em

ok as for the hippies with guns & homophobic hippies & all yea i guess they exist after all theres no rulebook for what it means to be hip.. but generaly theyre more openminded..less homophobic..less likely to well even if they own guns like a more hillbilly hippie theyre less likely to be violent

there are no rules..so 1 hippie might be a totaly spiritual being, while the next might be a drug crazed 4th grade droppout & another a brilliant scientist or ceo

its not about the specifics of your beliefs..ie all hippies believe_____ but the general openness to unconventional ideas and a true desire for peace
or thats my opinion anyway but everyone has theyre own personal understanding of what it means

suggestion..go to the next montreal gathering

but yea i think i was sorta hip way before i had any idea what that meant too, i tried being something else..back in the 80's when punk & stuff was the fad but even then i knew i was a hippy at heart without really knowing what that meant

but yea u should go tothe next gatherin near ya & i'm betting theres other stuff besides the drum circles goin on too.. just being around so many like minded ppl can really be amazing, & i know i get alittle weirded out by normal society if i dont get a good dose of that every now & then

    How To Be A Hippie
    1.) Stop.
    2.) Relax.
    3.) Breathe.
    4.) Notice.
    5.) Be.
    6.) React accordingly.

i spose you could get something tie-dyed, if it makes you feel better.

I think I know what you're sayin Grapefruity...I heard once that during the height of the hippie movement it became a fad. Yes there were definitely true hippies but because there were so many it became "popular." What I heard was that after it became more of a youth movement than a peace movement you had to have the right beads, say the right things, etc.

but yeah it sucks balls being the only hippie around....but then again I guess it gives me a chance to spread the love and light to more people who need it

    c'est la vie, eh?

I'm not sure what you're trying to do but here's the summary on my attempt:

Well when I was a freshmen I asked my local library if I could use their rec-room for a gathering for people who wanted to get together and discuss how to basically live a peaceful existence, be better people, make the world a better place (staring with ourselves, our own homes, and our community), etc.

After getting the okay from the library personnel I passed out flyers to the environmental club, the volunteer club, the political club, and to a few people I thought would be interested at my school, the libraries, bookstores, and the New Age shops in my town.

I wasn't sure if the gathering would just flow, so after everyone showed up (usually around 15 people) I started by asking people to list some of the broad topics they wanted to discuss and then we'd talk about that topic in more detail and ask/answer eachothers questions and comment on eachother's opinions, etc.

The dialogue went really smoothe and when a topic started to die-down we'd choose another. From the 1st meeting a Yoga Group broke off which was really cool. Myself and a few regulars took turns hosting it at different locations (public places always turned out the best f.y.i.). We passed out flyers for every new meeting so there were always new faces.

I was involved with it my Freshmen and Sophomore years but then moved. Not sure why I didn't try the same thing in my new town - Probably because I got a job and on top of that and school was too lazy to start all over...

All in all it was a good experience ~ Some advice would be if you're in school, don't just pass them out all over your school. I know this is judgemental, but I'm sure if I had done this it wouldn't have went over so well. Highschool kids at my school weren't really known for having "open-minds"- I was usually the youngest person there and I think that was for the best... Goodluck!
