SWIM did a 2-step extraction on 25g of ground-up Heavenly Blue seeds. Naptha was used as non-polar and denatured ethanol used for polar. After thorough evaporation 1.0 grams of a somewhat sticky yellow substance remains. The substance is solid and fairly hard, but it "flows" a bit on standing (kind of like wax does in a warm room).

What is the best way to test for LSA? SWIM has access to most common inorganic reagents but not exotic organic reagents or specialized lab equipment.

SWIM tried ultraviolet light and the substance did appear to glow but it was hard to tell, as the white dish seemed to glow almost as bright. SWIM read somewhere about a test for indole compounds so he tried it. Used about 1ml of glacial acetic acid and about 0.01g FeCl3 plus a small amount of H2SO4. Added a tiny piece of the extract to the solution and shook. Yelllow solution gradually turned somewhat greenish in color after about 10 minutes, but the whole thing turned black overnight with some type of precipitate.

So is this LSA? Any other tests to try? Also the seeds certainly are not going to contain 4% LSA so there must be a lot of impurities in the extract; what would these likely be?

probably some ergoline compounds, some isoquinolines, and a slew of other indolalkylamines

LSA yield should be something like .05% to .1%. What else you've extracted I have no idea, other than to say polymer knows his shit.
