the world will miss you... http://www.guardian.co.uk/russia/article/0,,1890857,00.html These are dangerous times to challenge the elite.
How long until journalists here face the same fate? Or maybe they just disappear, like they do in mexico....
In America you can't get into large journalism without sucking up to the big boy's (people with lots of cash) wishes, unless maybe you start a really popular website, but then they'll buy you out if that happens.
Never, the heart of Mother Russia always knows what's best. Yeah I'm a Russian Nationalist, what's it to you? Our country puts people who go against the government in their place. That's what keeps people thinking neutral about us. If the States did the same to their critics maybe half the world wouldn't hate America. Think about that. Also, I'll admit Russia doesn't always have the best leaders ( Ex. Gorbachev ) but Putin is probably the only guy who's fighting terrorism right, he cuts those bastards' throats and shows them that taking hostages doesn't give them any edge. If it weren't for Putin more people would side with the damn Chechens, because of Putin the world can see they're nothing but a bunch of savages ( look up Beslan hostage crisis ).
Druzhizhe, Its not about Chechen war or Putin, hes doign better than some. But its the atmosphere of chaos in Moscow, if peopel want to kill someone they just do it without fearing anybody... its better to kil someone than go and sue him. and that is the horrible thing.
I believe in the USA dissident journalists suffer a far worse fate - they make them work for the U.S. TV channels so they can suck the governments collective nob
Try and get to a point where you'll be able to say the truth and not get killed. If you shout in the streets against Bush nobody will do anything, but if you become a highly respected journalist and go on air and go against Bush, you'll get fired. Thing about the U.S. is people think they have freedom but they don't.
They're more subtle about it in the U.S. when it comes to silencing people. Case in point: that guy who witnessed Inglewood police beating up that black teen at the gas station a few years back. That witness was scheduled to do an interview with CNN at their bureau in LA when a black limo pulled up and he was arrested. They nailed him for some sort of driving offense he committed ten years earlier. That's one way of keeping someone's mouth shut. Who knows who was in the black limo. Certainly didn't look anything like a local or state police vehicle. .
Exactly - and when there is scandal surrounding a politician - always ask yourself - "what sort of questions was this politician asking just before this scandal came to light"? They silence politicians who get too controversial too Journalists in the UK have learned they either toe the line or they never work again in this country too - The government here in the UK kills scientists and technologists (THAT IS A FACT !!!) In the UK 10 computer network engineers, all of whom worked on the same secret military project were killed one after another back in the 1980's. Look into what we now know about Dr David Kelly and how the government had him murdered because he knew there were no WMD in iraq and advised the government not to enter the war
Don't get the idea that i'm saying that Russia = bad and U.S. = good. A State is a State no matter how benevolent it tries to appear. Anna Politkovskaya, you were a hero.
Was Gandhi too? That's a hard question to answer I think, cause he rather succeeded for a time....hmmm.......
Dude. You live in Canada. If Russia is sooooooo fabulous, move there and quit reaping the benefits that the cushy Canadian government affords you.
I visit Russia quite frequently, I actually go to many places, I travel quite a bit and with a Canadian passport it's so much easier, I do have my old Russian passport when I left, see if I had a Russian passport some countries might not let me in, like Switzerland, and I like to ski in the Swiss Alps. So that's my reason.
