Lets say you had the power or technology to wipe out every non escential item from existance would you? bare in mind that this message wouldnt be possible if you did would you do it?

I would without a doubt, if it forced socioeconomics to depreciate by 50 years so be it I think I must be a modern day luddite.

I wouldn't want to, how stupid would that be?
drills arent essential, tractors arent essential, hardly anthing is essential for my life when i think about it, but i don't really understand what you mean, what about technology for cancer patents? what about technology that sells and people make money and give to starving is that tech essential?

The meaning of this post really will vary from person to person depending of what you view as being non essential, im not going to put down what I see as essential because the list would go on and on.

Maybe to you the non essential should be changed to frivolous but instead of picking try thinking and if all you were after is an argument sorry but that would be a waste of time and energy.

Essential to what exactly? Question is too subjective.

I truly tend to be torn on the subject. On one hand ,I really think that it certainly wouldn't be a bad thing for natural selection to infiltrate the human existance. You know, only the strong survive (which is what would happen). But on the other hand, I believe that if the right people had the control of technology and used it with real compation and addressed world hunger, areas of drought, the earths pollution problems, etc. ,we really could make this a very beautiful planet with happy happy humans, all of us!

thats a very optomistic outlook.....but in reality, humans are natural fuckups, and we would program something wrong......
the right people DO NOT have control of tech.....well, some do. But they aren't the ones running this world

Nature runs this show, not man

people have stopped living a natural existence so long ago we no longer evolve naturaly
fire was the 1st evil that allowed us to become omnivores even though we're natural vegatarians
then came tools and building shelters and farming which all weakened us asaw species till we no longer could survive in our natural environment
now we're so weakened the sun is deadly, the weather deadly we have no resistence to diseases because weve replaced our natural adaptability with a pill for every ache and pain and disconfort

If I had the power, I would not eliminate any technology. If I had the power, I would make it so humans could not use that technology in destructive ways. Technology has been good for the human race (and could be used to benefit the environment). Sure, it has been been misused, but I think technology is basically indispensable.

Well we all must be a little biased due to the medium in which we are conveying all these messages. I think I agree mainly with the author here in that I know my computer, my car, hell my alarm clock are not necessary. In modern society these things have become (in the same way Marx described religion) an "opiate to the masses". Because we are so caught up in downloading music and establishing our own "uniqueness" we pay little heed to the winds of upcoming misfortune.

I know (or maybe think would be the appropriate word here) that some of you feel there is nothing wrong with i-pods and the influx of huge amounts of technology. But I must disagree because any technology is a potential threat to the environment and the world. Technology in and of itself is meant to remove us from the world and when we remove ourselves from a problem we make ourselves part of the problem.

On that note... it is a little cruel and I am sorry if this touches any nerves but if a patient has a fatal problem maybe it is the course of fate that they die.
