When a few months ago I found out all these mess ups in the Gregorian calendar & it got me thinking. Shouldnt there be a calendar that all major peoples can like rather then one based off Chirstain events and some science? You know, one that every major peoples can be happy with from Christain, Muslim, Jew, Hindu, to more lessier groups like the Jain. One that is universaly liked, based off events that arnt all religous as well as one that is scientific as well. What do you think?

according to Buddhists, its the year 2548. I am sure they would be fine with a christian and science based calendar... it would only mean loosing how many years?:H ;) Its also the Islamic year of 1427.

Why don't we just get all the head religious type people from all these different religions in one room. I am sure they will come to a mutually benificial conclusion... because organized religion has always been so willing to adapt and give and share and learn... lol.

I do agree a Universal Calendar would be nice, but that would require getting everyone to agree. I don't see that happening for quite awhile unless something major happens.

i believe there's a jewish and or chinese or both calander that we're in the year five or six THOUSAND and something.

you CAN devide the year into 13 months of 28 days each, or 19 months of 19 days each.
the first is a lunar calander and the second, the baha'i calander is sometimes called 'solar' since it's based only on the total year.

in any case there is the question of where to put new years day. most ancient traditions put it either the vernal or autumnal equanox.

also of course any rational or even irrational calander ISN'T going to come out even no matter what you do, because the number of hours and minuets and so on it takes the earth to circle the sun does not come out to an even number of days. so whatever you do, every fourth year needs to be a day longer then the three in between to compensate. that is if you want to keep the days and months somehow more or less in sync, so that holydays and so on fall at that comperable date each year.

i have no problem with either the 13 month or the 19 month calander with four intercelary days, five in leap years. that is days not part of the otherwise even months. party time!

I think that it would be damn near to impossible to create a universal calendar with the leaders we have in this world.

the only thing that would be universal about a universal calendar is that no one would like it. we'd all be unified in disgust.

The most logical calendar would be that which starts at the beginning, i.e the "Big Bang".

Therefore, we're going to party like its 13.8 billion.
