Globalization TO or BY people?

    I'm reading "Framing the bride" a book written by the anhtropologist Bonnie Adrian. In the introduction she writes:

    "Globalization does not only happen TO people, it happens BY people".

    For example: She sees young women in Taiwan not as victims of, but as strong actors in the globalization process.

    What do you think about the quote? What are your opinions / experiences on this (even if it has nothing to do with Taiwan, all opinion is welcome)?

    Well, that's the thing about Globalization that bugs me the most when people don't even notice cultures pushing on them.

    Globalization is a necessity, but I dont think I can bear it.

    I disagree. I think we can live without globalization if society can be convinced that there is a social price to be paid for cheaper products.
