Hi there, I have just started working as a nanny for three year old twins and was wondering if anyone had any ideas for activites to do with them that are a bit different to the usual painting, play dough, singing and dancing type things.

    Would appreciate any ideas!!

    Thanks!

go on nature hunts- get a magnifying glass (well two) a buckket and go outside and see what kind of plants and bugs you can find and maybe take a specimen or two and look it up on the internet.

practice abc's- find objects in the house or outside that stat with the letter A. so on and so forth

go to the park and rollerblade or bike, if you have any type of musical instrument bring it along and show them how it works, buy some chalk and draw pictures on the sidewalk, tye dye some clothes, hide and seek, tag, help them practice writing their names and the abc's 123's.

I liked to do spring/fall/summer collages...In the spring, we make grass and a sky out of paper, then find pretty flowers and plants, and dry them. Then we paste them in our "garden", same with fall and the leaves (we make a tree), in summer we create a beach with sand and shells.

get big pieces of cardboard paper and let them paint (first make sure it's ok with their parents and lay newspaper down and make sure they have art smocks.

go to a public pool for a swim invent some cool water games for them.

    play house

pretty much anything you come up with the kids will love it. try not to be too repetative make sure to mix up the activities during the week. unless of course the kids absolutely loved the activity and begged to do it again then of course it would be fine but you dont want them to get bored of the activity that you do.

make instruments out of household things.

make a treasure map, bury a couple "prizes" and solve it together by following easy clues.

I know you said something besides the usual painting but a fun thing for 3 yrs olds to do is take a gigantic piece of paper and finger or foot paint all over it. (my kids loooveee this)

go on a nature hunt. Before you go pack a picnic lunch and make a list to check off of all the things you guys want to find. my kids and i walk nature trails everyday. we look for animals, tracks, plants, trees ect. They then love going home and reading about the animals and plants we just saw. we sometimes just concentrate on one animal or plant a week and keep finding out everything we can.

what about baking? maybe make mommy and daddy a special surprise dinner or lunch? maybe a dessert? my kids love to measure out stuff and learn about ingredients like how to use them and where the original thing came from... sometimes its even fun to make up a story about it with them. (I'm a baker but its fairly easy to research be4 hand too).

    write and illustrate stories together!

i have so many ideas of things my kids and i do together but I'll write more later if you'd like them. :) My oldest are 3 & 4. Def. the most fun age for make believe games! Let your mind wander.

Three year old twins! I got them! HAhahaa... Okay so you want activities for them!
My two are completely into all things creative. Wheter it be making cookies, or rolling out dough to make their own pizza. To finding a big box from the grocery store, and coloring on it!
They also love to make choo-choo trains from connecting 3-4 boxes together.
We are down with the nature hikes! And playing "I spy" on they way! When they are not in the midst of a sisterly squabble, bubbles seem to be the "in" thing these days too! They have been looking through catalogs too, circling stuff they would like Santa to bring to them!
Keep them occupied is really the biggest thing! Or perhaps a good movie on the floor with a heap of pillows and blankets and a yummy snack!Especially if it is a yucky day!
I sometimes give the girls those "fake" credit cards that come in the mail, and they play store with some canned goods! with their purses, and high heels! It's a real hoot~

Don't sweat it I am sure they will have fun, no matter what you come up with! Good Luck!
