i loved Boscastle, and have been there a fair few times.....the Witchcraft Museum was amazing, always the best part! such a pretty place. me and my cousins would all go there for the day, buy fudge and drink tea in a little tea shop, walk around... it was terrible to see it all over national news. the torrents of water washing past the rooftops of houses and shops that i've walked past so mant times before. damn shocking actually. we've had some damn heavy rain here in cornwall lately though. the place where my mum worked was flooded out last week too. although not to the same degree obviously. mere inches of water, not feet. it's saddening to see such a wonderful place be washed away so easily, and i just hope they find no bodies.
Dunno if this is of any interest to anyone, but i took these photo's whilst sat on the edge of the storm on Monday. Was camping in Stoke, aboot 16 miles away from Boscastle, the thunder was booming incessantly for a couple of hours, the birds stopped singing, pretty intense craziness. 1st photo was at 3.30pm, 2nd at 4pm, and final was at 5pm. The rain missed us by a couple of miles!!! Witnessing the raw power of nature in such a way is pretty humbling stuff. My thoughts go out to all those who have lost livelihoods and memories that have been swept into the sea (even the Grockles who lost their postcards and short shorts) Peace on earth y'all PS. Each to their own and all that, but would anyone here seriously be jealous of someone being paid however much money to sit on t'internet all day?!...
Ahh man! That picture makes me especially sad!! I spent like the best times of my childhood there! I gotta picture of me and my late grandad sitting under that boat which stands at the back. Boscastle was such a magical and mystical place. Still is I guess.
That photo was taken back in '97 I think. T'was the first holiday me 'n' Earthwhirler went on together. Have some very fond memories of Boscastle.
