when im at school with my messy dreads and no make up people make me feel like shit. They tell me to brush my hair, cut my hair cause it's grosse, and this is coming from the pretty girls, the ones who spend way long in the morning preparing for school. then the guys (quite a few) dont acknowledge my exsistance because im not like that. and i usually dont care, but, i dont know why, its really getting em down lately and i feel like giving in and just start dressing and looking like the rest, it'd be so much easier.. id be the same person just look different right?
This happens to me when going into town... People expect rest of the world to be to their standards. When they see, say, someone with messy dreads, they just amkefu of that person. Just ignore them. THEY ARE LIKE CLONES, THEY JUST ACT LIKE CLONES, ACTING, WEARING AND (pretending) TO THINK AND FEEL THE SAME ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE..... Just SCREW THEM!!!
um, well, if you really feel ike youre a hippy and actually have hippy ideals, then you wouldnt give a shit. on one hand, theres nothing wrong with looking good, but if youre doing it to fit in, then it is. be who you are. people who are in early highschool are like that (i know im not much older, im soontobe 17). i got that from people for a bit too, and i just kinda laughed at them when they said it, and joked around about it and didnt trake it too seriously, and they dont say anything anymore. everynow and then if i kid around and rub my hair near someones face, or put my feet near someone, theyll say "" ewww dylans gross hair, or dylans gross dirty hippy feet", but its only an insult if you take it seriously, and i dont, i laugh, and we all joke about it. just try to see past it, and to not take it to heart so much. Cheers and lOVe, dylan
ya, tell them to lay off, you're spending the time their getting reading to do much more fun things anyways! when I had my dreads I used black beeswax so i really looked dirty (I have red hair) just tell them bite me
its just like you learn in school "sexual harrasment is decided by the recipient(sp?)" that can apply to you too. if you take it as insults, then they are. if you take them as jokes, then they are jokes
I get pissed off when people to cut my hair. But evtually I just forget.People are assholes, get used ot it.
yea, if someone says to cut your hair, i always ask why dont they grow theirs out? it shouldnt bother you, most people in high school just wanna be accepted and cool by TV standards
You're starting to care because you're just at that akward age when boys opinions matter....a lot. I don't like dreads....in any way shape or form. I think they're nasty. That's just one persons opinion, though. The question is....what's more important? YOU liking the way you look or THEM liking the way you look? Be yourself....there's no one in the world better to be. Just do you and love yourself....don't let the 'pretty' girls or the guys bring you down. Trust me....what people think of you in high school DOESN'T MATTER in the real world. Dare to be different and let your freak flag fly.
First off I just want to say you are beautiful. Secondly, everybody's vision of beauty differs from the next; don't conform to somebody else's vision of beauty because they don't see yours or understand it. Living a shallow existence gets old and is tiring and I'm inclined to say those who live for the more shallow things in life will eventually see that beauty comes from inside as well as out...I know that sounds really cliche and cheesy but I think it's true. Stay true to who you are not who someone else thinks you ought to be.
Yeah, you should definitely conform. Phhh. You're asking this on a HIPPY messageboard. What response do you think youre gonna get???
LMFAO I have short hair and stay clean shaven. People often assume that I'm in the military. I have been a "hippy", since 1990. I got sick of heads assuming I was cool, you know the whole peace sign at the stop light thing. Cut my hair back in '96. Now people have to actually get to know me to realize that I'm down. It's not your hair that matters. All of that being said I wouldn't cut it yet, if I were you.
do a modern hippy thing in highschool i managed to find a half-way style, which made me very happy as i felt attractive but still unique, and my new-found confidence made me a lot of friends. 'staying true to yourself' does not necessarily mean dress 100% as a hippy, it means staying true to YOU. you've got to determine what's peer pressure and what's your own voice first. for example if you wanted to start wearing makeup, work out whether it's what you want to do just for the hell of it, or whether you feel like it's a must to fit in. start experimenting and finding stuff that you personally like and don't like, and don't be afraid to buy something just because it's trendy, if you like it, buy it! your style will evolve and develop as you add new things to it, so just pick out what you like and it'll go from there don't be a slave to anything, and this includes the 'hippy' stereotype. the point about being a hippy is that you have the freedom to dress how you like. don't take highschool too seriously either. it'll be over before you know it, most of the kids are too immature to understand anything beyond appearances, and why do you need to prove your point to a bunch of people who you'll never see again? adults can be idiots too sometimes, but at least by the time you have to deal with them, you won't take what they say to heart. at the moment you're socially developing, so i'd recommend easing up on the individual image- you'll have a lifetime to do that, don't worry! make life a little easier for yourself and go half-way. i went 'half-way' by wearing, on a typical cool day: doc marten boots, ripped jeans, a cute cami with a pretty shirt over it, colourful bracelets, and on my face i wore foundation, eyeliner and mascara. my hair was pretty natural, loose and curly. warm days i'd usually wear tennis shoes, cute skirt, spaghetti top, a quirky necklace, colourful bracelets, and my makeup/hair would also be fairly natural. achieving a socially acceptable but still unique look is actually pretty easy. just follow your heart, and find stuff that shows off your unique personality. but if you get insulted over something... it's often easier to change it rather than arguing with people every day. save that for when you're older, and have the qualifications to prove them wrong good luck!
