I got into card weaving a few months ago and have finally posted my creations on Etsy. I made several chokers and a bracelet. I am currently working on a new set of chokers in burgandy and black. :) I am very proud of them. let me know what you think. They are the top 5 listed items.

    Thank you all. :)

Ghost of ruins: I was inspired to learn cardweaving from a friend of mine, castleman, on etsy. :) I then bought a loom from ebay and got a couple of books and tought myself. :) It is really fun.

lucyinthesky16: There is evidence that the Egyptians cardwove. It has been around for a long time. Although there has been a resurgance in popularity lately. I think mostly due to the SCA groups. (Society for Creative Anacronisms.) They are a medieval re-enactment group.

I have found books from the 20's and 40's at the library on the subject. and also from the 70's and 90's. The two books that I use are from the 70's. Nice black and white photos. :p

Card weaving is found in many different cultures and was traditionally used for horse and camel girths and bridals. and clothing trim. Bands were also given as favours to pilgrams going to Jerusalem in the middle ages.

Card weaving is also called Tablet weaving in Europe.

I have been cardweaving for years...I think it's a requirment in the SCA where I learned. Your bands are gorgeous. There are some great archives of patterns online.

Have you tried double face double weave yet?

HEHE. yeah. Thanks for the compliment. :) I bought a book by Linda Hendrickson on double faced weaving. I have not tried anything in it yet though. My loom is just not wide enough. Up to 1 inch wide is about all I can weave on it. I am looking at getting another loom from White Wolf And Pheonix that will allow me to do this. I don't like attaching it to myself and a chair. I like to be able to walk away from it. :p

The loom I am looking at will letme weave a piece up to 10 inches wide and 15 yards long. Trim here I come. :p

I have seen some of the pattern archives online. Mostly I get my patterns from books and modify them. I havn't gotten to the point where I am comforatable making up my own designs. Thanks for looking. :)

I like St. Louis a lot. Both of my college roomates were from there. But, I haven't been there in years. I would like to take my daughter soon, though. :)
