indie vs amateur- what are we?

You can't really say, there have been artists who were on major labels who then dropped into indie labels, like Spoon. And bands like Modest Mouse and Death Cab For Cutie have joined major labels. It's really hard to argue, because it depends entirely on the artists.

There are pop bands who have no previous experience about music except being on the disney channel and Micky Mouse club who are signed onto big labels...Does that make them less of an amateur?

Bands like Godspeed You Black Emperor, Mars Volta, Richard Buckner sound a hell of lot more professional than things you hear on the radio or see on MTV

Like, the Microphones, Elliot Smith, Beck...So, yeah...it's kinda not my descretion because they're not amateurs. Indie does not equal amateurs
