not sure if this belongs here but i just got a call from my sister in wisconsin and she told me that she lost her mucous plug on monday the 2,she's not due until november 16, and from that day up until now the great dane ,that she has been taking care of, has been by her side day and night from when she gets home to when she goes to sleep he is literally on her ass. now my question is why the hell is the dog acting this way???? usually he is playing with the three kids and sleeps in their room but since she lost the plug he has been with her constantly
dogs are very intuitive creatures. he probably feels empathy for her losing the plug so early and feeling like she could give birth prematurely. dogs are protective of their companions - he is probably "protecting" her by being at her side day and night.
he probably feels pritective of the unborn child and wants to make sure that 1 its all right and 2 is still there. aww sweet.. what's the plug for? i'm confused
the mucous plug is basically a bunch of mucous in the cervix to keep out bacteria and disease and anything else that could harm the developing baby.
Dogs DEFINITELY know what's going on, whether or not you want them to or let them know. When I'm upset, my dog knows. For a few weeks after I lost my dad, the little fella would NOT leave my side, especially when I was home alone. If my husband and I get into even the smallest of arguments, he pretends something is wrong (walking with a limp, whining like he has to go outside to potty, etc.) to get our attention away from each-other. When I'm in a really good mood, he begs and begs and begs to go for long walks or to just go outside and play. When I'm hyper, he's hyper because he knows I'll play with him. Dogs always know what's going on. He's probably watching over her, making sure she's okay. If anything happens while nobody is around, I would almost garantee that he does anything he can to get a neighbour's attention, whether it's barking endlessly (whether he's inside or outside the house), or scratching at doors/windows (if he's in the house) or anything else that he can do. If she needs help getting around the house, he'll probably offer his back/shoulders for support. Dogs are cool like that.
