are you pretending to be rasta? If not, fuck em.

No one has the patent on knappy hair. I have a few as well,
and they are part of my religion, not rasta, so who are they?

What about acsetic hindi? they have dreads.

i don't think dreads should be disrespectful to ayone. wearing "rasta" effects without being a rastafari, though, like the tricolor, lion of judah, etc, is stupid (like wearing a cross if you're not christian) and yeah, real rastas might find it disrespectful with good reason.
having said that, do whatever you feel like as it's your body and your hair.

there's a certain responsability that comes with having locks...you dont work for anyone but yourself, you dont work for money. You make crafts that can be bartered. No eating of meat, no consuming of alcohol...and the list goes on. I do not obey a lot of these principles, but I love the religion and the message. So, I have one lock that Ive had for about 10 years...I consider it homage. I hope that is not offensive. I think (for myself) that if I were to lock all my hair, that I would need to represent the message that locks stand for, and THAT would be offensive if I couldnt live up to it. If anyone ever has a question on the nature of locks, there are plenty of websites on it.

So..you cant just have locks because you want to live a natural..earthy lifestyle???

I want to see where Rastas applied for the patent...

^^^ yup, i can drink as much booze as i want and still wear locks thank you. and it's not even like rastafaris were the first ones to use them anyways, sadhus have been wearing them for thousands of years.
there comes no real responsibility with wearing locks, except maintaining them.

Theres not suppose to be an image attatched to having dreadlocks. There are many reasons why people have dreads. I decided to get mine as a spiritual expirience. For alot of people, its patience, and apreciation. Each dread, a life of its own. Like those who only have like 1 or 2 dreads, theres a deeper reason to why they have them, (usually). So, those who convey having dreads to one culture or religion... I dunno man, I usually just ignore ignorance.

Thank you sister! I have 3 major ones...two smaller ones that just popped up after not brushing my hair for years...

The 3 big ones were each a prayer and goal...deeply spiritual...and would be like losing my arm if i cut one....

I have had the longest one for about 4 years....the other two about 1 to 2 years....if i were a trend monger wanting to rip off the Rastas...which hate my race anyway...i would have gone to the salon, and got really pretty ones. And would have bought a Ethiopian color tam to put over it...

But, my hair represents my being in touch with nature...and living my life as close as I can to my ancestors of old....do you think the painter of Lascaux had clean curly hair and a shaven chin?

People wore dreads before they wore styled hair....all people...

sadhus, rastafaris, john butler, the guys at the reggae soundsystems...
i love my locks, but i am aware that i made them because of influences of society, me and everone else who has locks; ESPECIALLY the "hippy" ones of "freaks", who are basically just living up to a stereotype.
