I read a book on this subject a year or so ago, and started keeping a dream journal to track and try to better remember my dreams. I have always had exceptionally detailed and vivid dreams, and yes I dream in technicolor. I finally achieved my first Lucid dream in a dream about fighting ghosts, (or demons) and managed to control the dream, and attempt to ask who it was that was accosting me. No answer, but at least I was able to ask. since then I have taken seemi control over my dreams. I can't manufacture one, but I can steer it the way I want it to go, and it seems to gradually be getting better. My dreams are also much more vivid and realistic to me now. I just love the concept, and I can't wait to see where it is going from here. I will add my dreams when I have an especially meaningful one. REcently battling ghosts and spirits seems to be a focal point for me, as opposed to the dreams I used to have of battling human adversaries. I recently dreamed of swimming in deep water with a snow white horse that was nuzzling at me playfully, but I was also very conscious of it's hooves kicking about under the surface close to my own legs. A ten year old girl was sitting on the edge of the rocks by the water, and the horse was somehow hers, but not sure how she figured into the dream. Also recently had a dream about cocaine, snakes, swamps and my dead grandmother, who was crying. (Haven't done cocaine in fifteen years or more, just to be clear on that point) very long and detailed, and don't necessarily feel like detailing at this time. If you have lucid dreams, I want to hear about it. Feel free to post them regardless of what it is about. Peace....
I've had several lucid dreams... I've never successfully attempted to have one, it just happens occasionally. I can remember having some back when I was in first grade or so, but can't remember anymore until recently(about six months) since I saw the movie Waking Life and my interest in the subjec tincreased. However, I always seem to forget large sections of the dream, and eventually lose lucidity. If this doesn't happen, then I wake up instead. Its a real drag.
Just awoke from a very disturbing dream. I was travelling in the first part of the dream, on and off of seveal airplanes, and finally returned home. Went to bed as usual. I awoke to find that some stuff I had in the closet was all screwed up, and a mess. I tried to awaken my wife to see if she had done it. She would not wake up. It was pouring rain outside, and I went to the window and was looking out, very annoyed that someone had messed up my stuff. I realized that my big white van was not out there. I went outside to look for it, and walked a hundred feet or so, and suddenly realized that I did not recognize anything at all. I turned to go back in the house, and did not know which one was mine, and that I did not know what door to go into. I started to cry as I realized I was losing my mind, and that I must have suffered a stroke or something, one of my biggest fears. Suddenly my wife was beside me, in a T shirt and panties, and asked me why I was crying. I told her, and she broke down too. I asked her what was the matter, why was she crying, and she told me the same thing had happened a few yrs ago to her, and that she had been afraid to tell me about it as her mother had died in a care facility from losing her mind herself, and that she did not want me to think she was crazy. I awoke after that....
My biggest problem is once I realize I'm sleeping, like by checking my watch or looking in a mirror, I always get really excited and wake myself up. Any tips to stop this?
You're supposed to tell yourself to calm down, out loud, eventually I'm sure you can gain more discipline, but its the biggest problem for me. I usually get too excited a few minutes after luicidity, when I'm doing something exciting.
Tonight I had a great visiting dream with wife's family. Was a different bunch though, not all of them familiar to me. There was a rich old white guy in a tie, and several carloads of folks, including a old Plymouth Volare' limo full of semi drunken teenagers. We went in search of more booze, and Mike Keys, a good friend of the family was there. We ended up at a liquor store right in front of her Brother Mike's place. The rich old guy jumped out and went running up to the porch, and tried to jump up on a rock, falling and hittin his nads on the rock, and in the process scaring some black dude on the porch of the house next door. He started to run, like he thought the white guy in a tie was a cop. (No racial bias here, I grew up with a bunch of criminals, white and black) We all laughed at the situation. he whole bunch of folks and there was quite a few of them, were a good bunch of people, and it was a good dream. The old white guy I had never seen before said he was not gonna drink, because this was a very special visit. I just wanted to record this dream to tell the wife about later, as it involved her family and my dream journal is in there in the dark where she is sleeping at the moment. Peace...
Hey this is cool. I used to be really into the lucid dreaming. I remember I had a lucid dream and I kept asking if anyone knew what I meant- I knew I was dreaming while I was dreaming??! Anyway I looked into it and started to keep a dream journal and was able to achieve lucidity a few times after that but it would only last for about a minute until I'd lose it or just wake up. Eventually I stopped mostly out of laziness and also because I heard you really don't rest well after a lucid dream. This really is true- I always felt like I didn't even sleep after one.
Dreamed I was trespassing and walked down some railroad tracks and found a high barbed wire fence. I climbed over it, and was injured by somethig puncturing my booot and cutting my ankle very badly, but I kept the boot on and kept walking as it filled with blood till my sock was squishing with each step. I was with a companion, but not sure who, a male unknown to me. We found this big building, with high walls, and suddenly there was a vehicle coming. We looked for a place to hide, but finding none, I tried to slide into a shadow and remain still. My companion was spotted first, and I remained still hoping not to be seen by the person in the tan pickup truck. He spotted me anyhow, and picked me up too. He turned out to be a kindly old caretaker of this incredible place, and he gave us a look around. We ended up high up in this building, and found a room that looked out and down into this big prison yard, with old rock walls covered in moss that appeared about 4 stories tall. Oddly, there was an ocean liner on it's side in the middle of the open yard. The old man told us that the eccentric owner of the place had a young wife who jumped to her death from this very window, and that he had followed her immediately, jumping to the flagstones below. He treated my wound with disinfectant, (not gently either) and sent us away. I found myself in a DMV office waiting to take my drivers test or something, with my wound throbbing like crazy, and a dead friend of mine called me on my cell phone to tell me the weed would be in Friday lol. Weird dream huh? Once again, just wanted to get it all down.
I've been lucid dreaming since I was a young child. Only lately, however have I been able to conjure in my dreams. When I realize I'm dreaming I stop and think, where do I want to go. I close my eyes and when I open them up, I'm there. I still haven't been able to fly though. the coolest ld for me was when I conjured an art/music festival in a very green and hilly landscape. The morning started out with a poetry workshop where the "teacher" read a handful of my poems and then ripped them to shreds. It bummed me out for a minute and then I was like, "but wait, I'm dreaming and so is she, I can't be pissed at her." So I went down by the river and started swinging in a swing and talking to a couple of rad mamas. I was walking down a path when I ran into the poetry teacher. I told her that I wasn't very happy with what she did as some of the poems she destroyed were my only copies and regardless of what anyone else thought, I really liked them. She said she was sorry, she was having a really bad day and my poems hit a nerve. Then I heard some music coming from over the hill. I ran as fast as I could (pretty close to lightspeed. I covered a lot of ground in a couple seconds) and when I reached a clearing the Wood Brothers were on stage. I walked right up and sat down on the stage. The strange thing is that I have never seen them live, but in my dream they were playing songs I know but not like I've heard them. They sounded like they would sound live. I really wonder where this came from in my head. Was it how I imagined they would sound in concert? Or did I tap into the collective unconscious of people that actually had heard them live. Either way, after a song or two, everyone in the crowd left and it was just me and a couple other people listening to the Wood Brothers. I turned to Chris (Wood, from Medeski Martin and Wood) and asked him where all the people went. He pointed to a valley where there was a rave going on. I really wanted to go to the rave, but my alarm went off before I was finished at the Wood Bros. show. Fucking sweet dream. I have another lucid dream I want to tell you guys about but am too tired to write right now. It involves Jesus wearing a dress. hehe.
I used to have more vivid dreams, but I haven't since I can remember. If you want a very vivid- possibly even lucid dreaming experience, just don't sleep for about 3-4 days, then your brain will have saved up enough information to provide you with quite a ride...
Just had a dream of a high school teacher, a lady, who brought in all these weird heart shaped pieces of meat with holes in the centers, and she said that they were traditional planchettes, (the heart shaped thing used to scry words on a ouija board) and that she wanted to try an experiment with the kids, and invited them to touch the "planchettes" which I did, tho I am not a kid anymore lol. At any rate, I ha the strangest feeling after touching them that I should not have done so. the meat was fresh, and moist, and rather stiff. A girl in the dream starated crying, and said her family did the oija board thing, and that it scared her, and another evil looking boy said that the ke7y to it all was practice... then my alarm clock went off. Strange dream :/
I used to practice lucid dreaming. I got lazy with it. My first experience with a lucid dream, however, was accidental. I was younger, probably about 10, and had a dream I was being chased.... while I was running I realized I was dreaming, and got myself to escape the attacker and turn the dream around. When I was 16 I began some psychology courses in high school. We learned about lucid dreaming, and I became really interested. We learned about how, if you're having a nightmare and realize you're dreaming, a good way to wake up or get out of the nightmare is to do a somersault or cartwheel in the dream. Shortly after I had a lucid dream, and used that, and was immediately intrigued. A year or two ago I did a ton of research on my own about lucid dreaming and practiced things in my daily life to lucid dream on almost a nightly basis. My favorite was when I made my own lightning in the sky :-D The biggest thing you need to lucid dream is an open mind. I don't utilize lucid dreaming often anymore... typically only if I start having nightmares. One sidebar, too: WHY in the movie Vanilla Sky do they refer to what Tom Cruise was enduring was a lucid dream? The point of a lucid dream is to KNOW that you're dreaming, and he didn't until the very end after shit got messed up royally. That always confused me. Hollywood needs to get their facts straight.
WAKING LIFE!!! yes im yelling because you need to see this movie if you have any interest in lucid dreams. Also any drugs you can take will make watching this movie rediculous, I prefer weed but even without it would be very good.
waking life is a good movie, the same guy made A Scanner Darkly. the grafix on that one are alot better, great movie.
