I've been having frequent tension headaches for some time now and I was wondering if anyone had any home remedies that could help lessen them. I've tried things such as reducing stress, avoiding caffine, keeping a stable diet, exercise, ice packs, head bands, and etc... but they don't seem to have much effect. Oddly enough it seems as though the only thing that's worked is taking large doses of euphedrine.
avoid all caffeine drink more eat fruit remove stress from your life/ angry individuals do things you like doing
go see a chiropractor. since I started seeing my chiro for my headaches, the last refill on my migraine meds lasted me four years.
if ephedrine is helping, you are still coming off caffeine. hydrate well (guy meant drink more water, not booze) do stretching exercises that are fun, or at least not boring, get active for the endorphins that are in it, and maybe try valerian or kava (be aware on all contraindications) at night and see if the physicl relaxation helps. if so, hot baths, time for you (to laze or whatever) Also, are your eyeglass prescriptions (if any) up to date? Have you had your eyes checked? eye strain contributes to headaches.
I've been studying herbal medicine for a few months now, let me see what I can recommend. Umm...if you have coriander seeds steep them in boiling water and inhale the steam with a towel over your head. Chamomile tea is great, and adding a few grains of cayenne pepper wouldn't hurt. Really any type of herbal tea would be helpful. A mustard or ginger footbath is beneficial, as well as essential oils. Lavender for the temples and base of neck, chamomile or ylang ylang for a bath, and peppermint for inhaling (put in bowl of hot water). Hope that helps!
I always get headaches after being in a polluted traffic environment. Which is why I live in a small town and don't drive n'more.
crazylegs, I have the same prob (I don't use AC so windows are open most of the year) and the PA I see suggested it's a particulate matter allergy/ inflamation.
I think that would be true for respiratory and allergy problems but from my experience headaches are usually a chemical involvement, whether CO, hydrocarbons, solvents, mold or mildew. In traffic CO is like 10ppm which is pretty high and you can smell the hydros if you're behind another vehicle. Using AC with recirc sure helps but not completely for those sensitive. I can get a headache from being in a kitchen where they have a gas stove on. No particulates and very little odor so mainly the CO I guess. Another big problem for me is books and printed material in general. Stuff published before 1950 tends to have a mildew problem and after 1970 often has a heavy chemical smell both of which will set off my headaches. This is another reason why I'm stuck in the 60's, ha ha(?)
