Give us your own definition on hippie, what it means to you, how it has shaped your life?

Being a 'hiipie' to me is living without definiton.

Anyone who tries to label themselves and define themselves needs to do a whole lot more soul searching ...

    Hah! I'm no hippie.

Those who call themselves "hippies" (or any other stereotype for that matter,) need to fit into a certain group.. it's just no good.

I just am who I am. I am what other people consider a hippie, but what I consider myself.

This is funny, it's like hippies are a group that don't support groups. We support INDIVIDUALISM! It's freedom, you can be yourself. Lots of different types of people can be called hippies.

Bit like all those non-conformists (goths and emos being prime example) all being exactly the same by trying to be different yeah?

Individualism and collective. Freedom of choice and willingness to conform. Unwavering execution of plan and spontaneous change of course. I posit that we can be many things and still consider ourselves to be both individuals and collectively bound to the Universe.
I look at people such as lying politicians who sell out their own kind, exploit minors and then blame their low character on some childhood trauma. These are NOT hippies. The hip person seeks his or her truth, holds it to the heart, spreads his light and love with others who embrace it and basque in it.
Of course, wearing beads and having drop-dead gorgeous hair couldn't hurt ;)

Exactly, and it's kind of scary. But we're still outnumbered by the "normal" people, so I'd say we're still...different. Goths and emos are outnumbered too, but...that might be a good thing. The world would be a depressing place. :)

:) It's not the label mind you, but I like the sound of the word hippy, hippie or beautiful People. These word's are a representation of what I stand for. Peace, love, freedom, a clean earth, respect for others. Against our crooked government and crooked corporations that do nothing but destroy our planet and our freedoms.

So no it's not about lables, but the true deffinition of what the word's stand for, peace love and freedom my brothers and sisters, being against the current system thats messing up our world.

Id be more than happy to carry the lable hippy as I dont care much about what the majority of society thinks of me. I think we need to worry more about the pollution out there and the crookedness going on than to worry about how we are labled by that same system and there followers. :sunglasse

Hippy is just a group I kind of fell into, the "group" that had people who care about the same things I do..not that all hippy's do but most do embrace peace, love, understanding, oppose racism, ect. I am all about being a individual, I don't care what others think of me, and I don't prejudge them. I give everyone a chance to prove who they are to me, I don't make decisions based on what they look like ect. I guess being a hippy to me means understanding differences betweens others, races, cultures but also embracing those differences at the same time. Saying, "Wow, what can I learn from how they do things" Being a hippy to me means being myself while letting others be who they are.

    Peace to all,

    Al

Hippie is what my friends call me. I don't mind it though. I'm kind of proud to be considered a hippie.

I think that currently a lot of people confuse Hippy and Yippy. Hippy to me means the whole Peace, Love, Consideration for All type of life, and Yippy means give me all of that or I'll burn your damned house down.

I never understood Yippies, it seemed self-contradictory. :sunglasse

Very well writen, I say a-men brother. I myself am not really out to judge anybody, I try too be peaceful with all and have never done anything violent to anybody, at the same time we do need to make our feelings known on wicked things that we dont stand for, hippies while being peaceful are also in my opinion not afraid to use there freedom of speach and make there voices heard on things. We just need to be more civil about it, if nothing is said or done than nothing in the world will ever change for the good.

Here is an example of what im getting at, I am very respective to all people and differents types of life and our planet, however I will speak out in a civil maner against any organization or personal attitude that is out too destroy everything. I will speak out against Such things as Rape, Murder, Child molestation, polution of our planet, crooked governments and things of the such. Obviously no peaceful and loving person will be for such things.

So yes in closeing being a hippy to me would be also about accepting different life styles and opinion's, but at the same time if we were to putup with wicked things that are done in my opinion that would also be a contridiction to the deffinition of hippy as being a hippy is basically about love peace and respect and there is nothing loving, peacefull or respecting about wicked deeds.

To me in my humble opinion there is a proper balancing scale there. A true hippy in my opinion will not stand for violence or corruption of anykind.

    Peace to all :sunglasse
