It may be that she has B. V. Google it, its a very common bacerial infection that can be easily cured with the right drugs form the doctor.
It's not supposed to smell bad. That's typically a sign that something is wrong and she should see her doctor. A healthy clean vagina has a certain musk to it, but shouldn't smell HORRIBLE.
Maybe you could just tell her gently? Don't make a big deal, but just that something smells not quite right down there and maybe she has an infection or some such that she should get checked out.
