Hi, have 6 skunk #11 on the 13º week the first 4 with 18h-6h cicle the last 9 whit 12 hour cicle of light.(400W) their about 1 m tall, and looking good, I can see the "tricomas"(don´t now how to call it in english look´s like little mushroom´s) in the bud´s shinning, and the colour is changing to brown all over the bud´s, should be good! but is it the rigth moment to crop?!? can some one please help me? thank´s
Hey juninho! The little hongo shaped "tricomas" are called "trichomes" (try-komz) in English. They change from clear, to milky or cloudy, to amber or light yellowish-brown, to a darker brown. If your's are already turning brown; I would say yes, crop them soon. Dark brown may be a little late. Different people may prefer to crop when the trichomes are "mostly amber" or "1/2 clear and 1/2 amber" because the different colors allow the smoke to have a different effect. You need to experiment a little so you can find your favorite color, the one that gives you the best results.
hi TH thank´s for the fast answer! So i have check the trichomes with a 30X lens, they are not clear has water like they were before, half is already amber! should i wait for all of them to stay amber to harvest? that is the "dilema"...what is realy the difference between the two stages of the trichomes half amber full amber? i already have tasted the ladies but is hard to tell because when we rush the dry period they get "harder" flavour...and four me the flavour is essential! so i think i will harvest this ones, and will see! one last question: -one of my ladies the tallest one, is less mature than the other´s, don´t have many brown hair´s, clear trichomes... is it normal? thank´s for the fast help
Plants can mature at different stages. If 50% of a plants trichomes have turned amber I reckon its about time to harvest.
Thank´s for the usefull help! I will crop the more mature ones ! But.... I have one more question Is there a big diference between croping the bud´s one by one and let them in a glass jar to drie, or Cutting the all plant taking off the leafes, and let it in one piece, to drie? i ask, because i heard different opinions about this matter. Xau PA
I normally manicure first. Then hang it up to dry for a week then put it in jars. Open the jars daily for another week. Then leave them. Normally the longer they are left the better they taste.
Hello! The difference between the colors, is that if they are milky/amber 50/50, they are at about their peak potency. As they turn more brown, the high will be sleepier and more lazy. If you pick them half milky/half clear, the high is more energetic and paranoia inspiring, depending on strain and individual. Definitely do not put the fresh buds in the jars until they are totally dry. Leave them hang until the stems in the center of the bigger buds is dry enough to snap when bent, this will tell you when it is dry enough to put it in the jars. Doing this too early will result in them getting a fresh cut grass or hay smell and that flavor will never get better no matter what you do to it. I also used to manicure first, even though my father, who grew for years told me to hang them and leave the leafs on to make it taste better. I was always in a hurry to get it dry, so I took the leaves off first. One time I left one hang with the leaves on just for the hell of it, and it tasted much better! The leaves tend to keep on leaching energy into the buds until they are dry, and this encourages the chlorophyll to break down, resulting in a cleaner, tastier smoke. Now I leave em on and manicure it all when it's dry. Ol Dad always did know his stuff. Peace....
that explains the homegrown I smoked that gave me the spooky high. I just cut the buds off and smoked them w/o letting it go brown. I think I prefer the lazy over the scared of nothing I got.
