I'd really like to watch this match in the stadium. However, it looks impossible to buy a ticket prior and I'm not going to buy a hospitality package, any pub or coffeeshop recommendations where I could watch this match?
freecity comes to mind but i've heard a recent rumor that they are closed....can anybody confirm that? i think the bulldog used to have a sports bar near the leidseplein.
it's a pretty safe bet that just about all bars and coffeeshops with a TV will have that dutch football game on it especially when Ajax plays.
Free City is closed and does not look likely to reopen. The Bulldog sold their sports bar near Leidseplein over 2 years ago and is now the new location of The Waterhole. No tv's. Few coffeeshops have tv's, but you should have more luck in the bars. Here's one that should show the match and smoking marijuana is allowed: http://www.satellitesportscafe.nl/web/index.php
Stones cafe on wormstraat(sp?) will have it on. You'll probably be able to get a ticket for the game itself if you ask around in Amsterdam. I managed to get 1 a couple of years ago when Ajax played Bayern Munich in the champions league from a guy who worked in Dutch Flowers cs.
Thanks all, lots of good suggestions here. It probably sounds silly to travel to Amsterdam and sit in a bar watching football, because I do that at home. 2 matches per trip is my plan. Last trip I watched in the lounge of my hostel and had good time. I keep meaning to go to satellitesports.
Just walk past any bar and see if theyve football on. Thats what i do with friend when we want to watch Holland play (im a girl, but huge football fan none the less). In Amsterdam Ajax games are just as important, so it shouldnt be much of a problem to see it.
they dont always show dutch league games live mostly sky sports english games. ajax- twente isnt a category a game i dont think. ive been trying to get tickets for an ajax game for the next time im in mokem. i was told by my dutch friends on betfair that there are kiosks in the city that will sell tickets for non category a games but there best advice was to go to the arena in good time before kick off and you can but tickets at the stadium! dont know if this is true but thats what cruijff says and he lives in nl. when i have watched highlights of ajax at the arena this season against the smalle teams there seems to be seats available. good luck and let me know how it goes. ajax groet
Thanks gaz or jazz. When I travel I always try to see a match at the nearby stadium. I will look into your suggestions. -Alicia
