naw, you can go too far here. free speech is limitless. I will prolly get another ban for mentioning it.
however, the last time I got banned, I did accuse someone of sleeping with animals(they probably dont) so I am totally not disagreeing with the decision.

There -should- be free speech everywhere, and most of all in a forum that calls itself a Free Speech forum.
    Heh.

should is a really neat idea.
why can't is simply the realities of the world at the moment that we are currently living in

i think skip tries to keep it as free as he can and still be able to keep it on the internet and keep himself and the rest of us out of too much trouble doing so.

we could be completely free and shot down in an instant and soon forgoten for doing so, but then what would be the point? how long would we be able to last if we did.

i've seen places try that and one of two things invariably happens after all too relatively short of a time. either they mysteriously dissappear entirely, or the get coopted by the prevailing dominant bull puckie.

there are a lot of backward headed laws. and it is a reality that they are backward headed. it is also a reality unfortunately, that they do in fact exist.

It's kind of like what Ghandi said about western civilization.
I was on an unmodded forum for awhile. It got brutal. It sucked because lots of good people just wandered off..said fuck it.
    It's modded now.

There was a time when this was an unregistered, unmoderated forum but a decision was made to require users to register and be subject to moderation.

Skip did not make this decision lightly, he consulted with all the users of the site at that time, as I remember, and put much thought into how best to impliment this proceedure.

There is very little restriction put on anyone at this site and moderation is kept at a bare minimum. Personal attacks are not allowed. Illegal activity is prohibited and spam and double posting is prohibited to keep the site from crashing.
    That's not much restriction.

In order to have freedom you need some limitations. For example, this place would be less a free speach forum if you got more trolls etc running around, despite there being more rules (i.e. no trolling).

The best description of Freedom I ever heard was:

Your freedom ends when it reaches another's nose.

So you're free to say what you want, but once you affect another person (negatively), that freedom must be restricted.

Another big problem here is that there are ways that people can come on here and limit the free speech of others.

For instance via stalking, trolling, spamming, flooding or just giving other members a hard time or attacking their credibility (over and over).

That makes people feel more inhibited in their postings.

So it's not the management of these forums limiting free speech, it's more often crafty trolls who have an agenda. And we've made an effort to root these individuals out.

    Deleted.

It's not worth getting into a fight with Skip over. :D

But I will say this: I disagree and know from experience that the management does limit free speech, and selectively censor the forum as they see fit. :)

(How's that for freedom of speech, is it okay?)

Edit: On an unrelated note, I just noticed a parallel between fighting terrorism and fighting trolls and spambots. You just can't win! (laughs) Maybe Bush should take a lesson from the Hip Forums, no matter how much you restrict it, you simply cannot beat them.

    hahaha ... yup.

I find it very amusing that he said "...That makes people feel more inhibited in their postings."

What I see inhibiting folks here most of all... is fear of saying anything that would rub him the wrong way.

You really think people are scared to rub Skip the wrong way and speak on beliefs against his own? If that's the case why do we still have Bush supporters posting?

Edit: And Skip, I believe the quote is 'The freedom to swing your arm ends where another mans nose begins" ;)

um, did I say anything about beliefs? Im talking about the recent threads that were closed...

And yes, people are scared. Hence the apologetic, carefully-worded replies... You were one of those people.

You know what... I think its quite funny that you are still here kissing up to Skip, and meanwhile your a moderator on the new site... quite the little hypocrite, arent you? ;)

I'd like to know why YOU are here free2fly, all I read from you are complaints about this site & me. So why aren't YOU gone too?

    You're the hypocrite.

Do you need to be shown the door? Now?

Or are you only sticking around to spam our members?

Anyone else unhappy here, just get up and LEAVE, and don't come back here to complain.

Enough whiney ass two-faced trolls around here.

I should also point out that I've tolerated this thread (oh, but there's NO FREE SPEECH HERE), despite the fact that it was started by someone who'd been banned before and came back again just to harrass us. Threads like this are only here to sow divisions amongst us. If you can't see that, well you're just a sheep anyway.
