For those of you who have seen the original, how faithful do you think this new PG-13 remake will be to it?

I can't believe they're even attempting to remake this cult classic... The whole cultness of the film was it's uniquely british type vibe...

As soon as I saw a billboard saying The Wicker Man starring Nicolas Cage I cringed... Please tell me he doesn't try a pathetic british accent...

I wish the film industry would STOP REMAKING CLASSIC FILMS! and ruining the appeal of the originals to new generations...

Actually, the remake supposedly takes place in the US, in the state of Washington. So I wouldn't expect any British accents. :)

I find it kind of weird that they moved the setting to the US... I just don't see the point. I guess to better appeal to American film-goers.

From what I've read on Wikipedia, it doesn't sound like the pagan rituals are going to be accurately portrayed. The authentic rituals from the original film are a big part of what makes it great. The island in the remake is ruled by women, and the men have had their tongues cut out. Also, Nicolas Cage is the father of Rowan and the ex-husband (or maybe ex-fiance) of her mother (who is oddly named Willow... not sure why they did that). Neil's character is vastly different.

The strangest part about the remake, from what I can tell without actually seeing it, is the advertising. It's advertised as some kind of Satanic horror film. The original film shows the absurdity of religion in general, including (and you may even say especially) Christianity, and I have a very good feeling that this remake is not going that route, which is a shame. If that's the case, then the entire point of the film is lost.

Hav'nt seen the new one so cant say how good it is, but I dont see how you can better the orginal. It is a classic! And I dont see how you can move the story to America without losing that genuine pagan atmostphere you got on a Scottish island where you felt pagan rituals could have been going on for centuries as part of the culture!
But I do wish Hollywood would leave classic films alone. The original is as good now as any remake! Think its just this desire they have to have everything set in America!

Heh, well, the reviews on IMDb for the remake have just been terrible. I think it's rated at a 3.7/10. The people who saw the original think the remake is terribly unfaithful, and the people who never saw the original just think this movie sucks. Lots of stories about crowds of people leaving the theater all pissed off... :p

I love Nicolas Cage but this one was his worse movie ever, it is boring and a true kick on the balls to the original film, Sad.
