Soon to be 1st timer here ... have a few ? tho.

    1. my basement is very humid, 85% this time of year.

    2. Its an older farmhouse, so the wall is literally stone.

Do you think a small bog setup, say 400w HPS (i can section of parts of the basement for size) would help with lowering humdity?

Would a dehumidifier make that much of a dent?

What are my options, or is it necessary for a lot of air exchange? I could probably try something thru the rock, but in all honesty it wouldn't be pretty...

85% is a challenge! But having grown cannabis at 35 feet below sea level in Amsterdam, I know it can be done.

Definitely consider a dehumidifier, but the experts know best!

Too bad you can't ventilate somehow, because that will ensure the fresh air that the plants are going to need lots of! Not only exhausting, but intaking fresh pure clean air is very important to the plants. The more the better! The more air exchange, the more the humidity will drop down there...

Hope this helps, and happy growing!

Ur gonna need lots of air exchange to combat the humidity levels and avoiding mold setting in. Who cares if the hole in the stone wall is pretty, if its a farmhouse, just camouflage it so you can hide the big ass intake and exhaust fans you could put there.
I would section off a part of the basement and then have a collector room, where you can put a carbon scrubber and dehumidifier. This way, you have a smaller area to dehumidify and can control how much humidity is going into the growroom.
Just ask my lil bro about humidity, he went thru a spell of high humidity and never paid it attention and the mold killed 90% of his personal med crop, so he knows all about humidity now.

In veg, humidity can be our friend but in flower, the less of it, the better.

I am sure you could find something like that, albeit pricey, and it depends on your application, ie: whole room, basement, closet ,etc.
If you are only going to run a 400, build a small room or a large closet.
I have 3 150's in a double closet setup with a carbon scrubber and I am very happy,

Ideally you want and intake and exhaust fan but at least and intake and and exhaust fan. Go see the helpful hardware man and ask for a dehumidifier. They cost some in electricity but a 400 wont produce enough heat to make much difference. A cold place is often a humid place because humidity is relative to temperature and the amount of water the air can hold. By warming the room it naturally becomes drier but warming or ventilating alone might not do it. You may really need the dehumidifier to make it work. Products like Remedy can help with molds but humidity should be kept down to around 50% in late flowering or the effort can be wasted by molds.

Consider a 1000 watt hps light if heat is needed because why not make heat with light that can just grow a lot more? :) BOG

Yea i think im actually going to go in another direction... but it'll take a few months.

    Going to either ...

    1. Buy a barn/shed put it up near the house, run electrical and water to it underground (ez trenching work !! ) Probably 10x14. so i can really have some room to grow other things too :)

    2. Build a small addition of the porch 8x10 and do things that way. However this is def. the more expensive albeit safer option. I need to talk to someone about this tho. See how possible it really is.

That is a good decision because why take any risk without enough gain? Good Luck to you?
