I have to say Vegan Gourmet by Follow Your Heart is the best vegan cheese I've tried (follow link above to http://www.imearthkind.com/ by itsamagicallife). The mozzarella one is my fave and it rocks on pizza! I used to think I couldn't live without cheese too cuz I loved it so much. But then I realized that being vegan meant more to me than eating cheese and it made the sacrifice a lot easier. Then something miraculous happened- I cheated and had a bite of cheese one time shortly after becoming vegan and found I had lost my taste for it all together. It actually tasted like nasty shit to me. Couldn't believe I ever liked it. So now I no longer have any desire to eat it. Just a li'l food for thought for anyone who thinks they could never give up cheese.

  2. Sorry mate: didn't understand this post. You've lost me completely!
 Could you rephrase for the hard of thinking?

You called me mate! That's awesome! <-Sorry I just love that word. What I was saying was that maybe I shouldn't add my two cents in a thread called "vegan help" when I am not a vegan (yet) and am just starting out with the vegetarian stuff to begin with... aka I should just sit back and let the people who know what they are talking about do the talking and read the darned lables on my food better.

  4. Ah, right, lol. I'm with you now.

I wouldn't worry about it, though - I'm not vegan either and I still contribute here from time to time. There are things I can comment on, avoidance of dairy ingredients being one of them. :) And hey, don't feel stupid - there are so many sneaky little ingredients to keep track of that it can be very confusing. Sometimes it's impossible to think of any reason for their presence in a particular product, which means we can't rely on logic, unfortunately. :$

I'm glad you like 'mate'. I like it too. 'Tis a good word. :)

If you did not say anything then you may not have found out about casien, and it may have helped inform many other people who never said anything or would think to ask. So its all good. [IMG]

Very true... In learning that it made me look harder at the grocery store. I found vegan cheese made by the same company (Galaxy Nutritional Foods) it's 100% non-dairy and casein & lactose free, also gluten free. It just says Vegan across the front, so I guess that is what they call this cheese. Even though I am not vegan (yet) I still an trying my hardest to stay away from any dairy products since I'm a bit lactose intolerant. Looking for cheese that is non-dairy is a high priority for me since I love cheese. I haven't tried this cheese yet, but I will let you know how it turns out.

I was bummed to find out some of the cheeses I had tried had casein, too. Giving up cheese is one of the hardest things ever. I don't eat any other dairy, but I don't much like any of the substitutes I've tried yet..
