Hey you guys - ...I know there's so many "can u reccomend..." threads on this forum,...but I was hoping u would be able to reccomend some lesser-known music ...either female bands, female-fronted bands, or solo female artists. I like music like Kathleen Edwards, Patty Griffin, Tapping the Vein, Eisley, Charlotte Martin, Norah Jones, Portishead, etc. Also - I like piano music... so if anyone knows of any cool artists that have piano-based music. More specificaly, piano-pop or classical music. Thanks in advance you guys.
my favorite 2 female singers: Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions / Mazzy Star The Gathering and if you want something different you could check out Goldfrapp & Moloko
Tori Amos is piano based....also well known....I am in awe of her. Natalie Merchant and Bjork (also well known...sorry)I have to mention because they are two of my favorites. Beth Orton is someone I recently discovered and her music is growing on me.
If you want to listen to a really heavy lady rocker, try Nina Hagen. She's great. Joan Jett and Suzy Quatro also. Supreme Beings of Leisure is a very good electronic band (like Portishead). And for piano driven music, look into jazz performers like Diana Krall and Patricia Barber. They are both great singers and pianists, and front their own bands.
I second this, as well as Ani as mentioned above as well... also Liz Phair (1st two albums really great) Sleeter Kinney Rilo Kiley Cibo Matto Solex and more popular but oft forgotten.... the pretenders
carol king - tapestry, has alot of piano on it. the carpenters have piano too. female fronted bands. x ray spex, the slits, siouxsie and the banshees, skelletal family, kate bush, joan jett, suzy quatro, the runnaways, eurythmics, pretenders.
Ani Difranco is great... also check out The Shelly Doty X-Tet and The Rebecca Riots... The Riots have since broken up, but all 3 of them have solo projects going... Sara McLauchlin is quite well known, but I enjoy her music a lot too.
