The Blue-Fin Tuna is facing extinction in the Atlantic & Medittereanean Oceans due to over-fishing.
The Japanese love of 'Sushi' is causing massive overfishing in the medittereanean where one large Blue Fin Tuna can fetch up to $300.
Although the E.U. set quotas -these are blatantly being abused & the Tuna are being caught before they can spawn their eggs.
The same problem faces North Atlantic Cod supplies.

Is it better for them to go extinct or for us to farm them?

    keep telling yourself that.

btw, according to both the petfood store owner I buy my cat's food from, and a vet that specializes in treating cats exclusively, if you're feeding canned tuna to your cats, it's going to have a long-term detrimental effect on their health. The magnesium will kill them, and it lacks other nutrients vital to a cat's health. Cats love seafood, but it isn't really the best thing to feed them. If you want a really low-cost "supermartket" catfood, purina is the best, as they're really cheap, easy to find, and use real meats in their ingredients, as opposed to by-products. Cheaper and easier still would be making your own petfood, but you'd have to stick to the recipe fairly closely for proper nutritional balance. I usually just go with Purinia, when I can't afford the classy organic hippy catfood from my friend's shop.

Improper harvesting of anything will result in problems, the great dust bowls anyone.

Going vegi will not eliminate the worlds problems, good judgement, proper harvest and management will!
