Considering the facts, I think it would be pretty hard to continue eating meat (especially factory-farm raised meat) and hold an environmentalist view. I was once a major consumer of beef and chicken, yet I recently came around to the fact that it is wasteful, destructive and downright cruel to the animals. I have since adopted a vegan diet and feel healthy and cleansed.

Some info regarding the topic can be found on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Environmental_benefits_of_vegetarianism

I hope you can value this information as it is shockingly true. Think about it in terms of this. Run-offs from farms pullute streams and kill the surrounding wildlife. More than 10x the plants are killed (as they are needed to feed the growing animals) which causes much more land (rainforest etc.) to be devoted to crop production. Even free roaming cattle contribute to deforestation and basically leave their grazing areas depleated of resources - as we overload the areas with them and simply allow them to go (unlike in nature, where eating does not go unchecked)

Basically it comes down to a matter of choice, and the transition will be up to you. Please give this some consideration- as it is a very important subject which often goes ignored.

    Thanks!

your right there, but its not even just a matter of being environmentaly better whenyou look at the fact that reducicing meat intake worldwide by only 10% would end all hunger..eliminating it completely would solve the energy crisis if we tthen converted the excess veggies into fuel oil

its the only sane thing to do

thanx.... i know this fact , but many other are just not willing....
    just some simple facts:
-gmo-crops are grown mostly for the sake of cattle/poultry food.
-you get much more food per hectare (or whatever mesure you want to use) growin veggies for humans than having cattle: very INEFECTIVE way.
-watershortage!!!! animal farming is a heavy water waster!!!!!!!!!
-rainforest for beef: they just burn down the forest, but cattle, and then, move to new patch of newly burnt rainforest because the earth is not deep, and they need new land all the time.
-hormones, fertilizers, concentration camps, prison, torture, beatings and misery....: animal farming is something that doesnt belong to this millenium. it is so pathetic and inhumane and abslolutely INSANE.

thanks for bringing up gmo foods..or sorry gmo crops since many feel theyre not suitable for food use, , i personaly thinkthat the gmo crops should be used entirely for fuel

additionaly, ya just gotta wonder how much switching to a healthier veg diet globaly would affect the current healthcare crisis

Yeah man. All of these facts are just shocking. I think that in this day and age there is just no other viable option-considering all of the toruture, struggle, waste, etc. It really comes down to a matter of greed. Is your burger worth your earth's future? Is your steak worth a cow's life? Sorry, but no.

thats somthing a lot of people dont understand. they think the only reason people are vegetarian/vegan is because animals are our friends, they never think about what happened to that animal before they eat it.
