Have any of you ever lived or have wanted to live in a hippie colony? They live in nature in the woods and grow there own food and stuff. Natural forms a medicine and things like that. One of my freinds have been to one and he told me all about it. It was in Nebraska and I'm very interested. I think I might just go and live that lifesytle. Any input would be wonderful. Peace, ~ Sway
Back in the 60's and 70's we use to all get togather rent a place. We would all pitch in for food and rent. Then there was the never ending quest for a buzz.:sunglasse I've heard of place's like that but never been to one. Go to the rainbow people thread and look around. The free life is still there.
Wow that sounds amazing X I would LOVE to go to a place like that !! Were in Nebraska? It defintly sounds like a place I would live at lol !!
Hippie colonies seem like such a good idea! LOL When I have my family, my goal is to live in a rural area, grow my own food, and work from my own home, with a bunch of likeminded folks around me. Living just off of Commercial Drive in Vancouver, I'm as close to an urban hippie community as I can be.
Places like this exist, look at the Rainbow Community. As close as what you are talking about as possible. Then there are other places which may not be exactly what you are talking about, but close, San Fransisco still has some areas similar to this (spent some time in Haight Ashbury last summer, I don't know if I'd call it a "colony" but there were good people ect.) There is an artist's colony in the Lower Pennisula of Michigan, Sawgatuk, and it is a great place for artists, hippies, GLBT people, alternative practictioners, drum circles ect. You can even find small community of hippies in places like Madison Wisc. The Farm is rural Tenn is a real hippy community, based on food and baby growing and delivering, founded by Ina May and Steven Gaskin (I don't know if Steve still lives there anymore, but Ina May does.) My dh and our kids and I grow our own food (as much as we can) ect, but it's just us, on our acre, without a real "community" but we have friends who stop by and sometimes. There are places. Look into the Rainbow Forums to see more.
Maybe we should try creating one. There's nothing wrong with that idea. I'm great at growing organic foods. But where would we base it at. We can welcome all who needs shelter and food. If anyone has ideas, message me, and we can think of a plan in the near future.
I don't know how swift that is. Check out the barefoot guy with the ponytail whose back is turned to you. Isn't he sporting a knife? That hippie could gut me within an inch of my life! <j/k>
I would in a certain way love it, but in the summer I cant handle humitity, Im so used to central air I dont even go too my parents lake property in the real hot weather. When I was younger it wouldn't have been a problem as I was more used to it. I have always belived in the hippies lifestyle more though, a lifestyle of peace, love and a clean earth where each individual can be themselves without persecution.
I might be interested in visiting one just for the thrill of it, like one of those rural ones. But living there? No way. Postmodernism isn't really my thing.
There is one in summertown tn, It's called The Farm and they have a website http://www.thefarm.org/ It's at the end of Walker road down past the sports field, my dad grew up there (we're the walkers). Ok, it's right where the new Saturn plant is at; it might have already closed down. Hey, let me know if you've ever heard of this place.
Indeed, I think every one should look at their site. See what a bunch of hippies, time and a lot of hard work can do. I've been a customer of the MushroomPeople for a long time. (I grow Shiitake). Peace, poor_old_dad
is this ocala? see this here is my real home.. to those whove asked about this theyre everywhere..but if you wait for it to come to you you can be waitting forever ya just gotta go where spirit takes you but if your country hasnt started comming together yet.. it only takes 1 to plant the seed..the idea..and 3 to agree its a good idea & make it happen rainbow is the most massive hippie comminuty thats ever been a nation without borders a home for everyone with a bellybutton so get on up off your butts & come on home we love you
There are still communes where people live off the land. They're few & far between but they're still out there. Many of them are just groups of friends that start a community and share the land, and it seems like many of them are invite-only. I'm definitely interested in this kind of lifestyle and would love to live in a community full of like-minded and self-sustaining people. If I can't find a commune I guess I'll have to start my own!
the best way to do it successfully is get some type of social security disbility so there is a steady source of income
