Ive been taking fish oil and omega 3-6-9 pills regularly for 3 years. I dont "feel" and difference but apparently theyre good for your heart. Im portuguese but live in Canada so I dont eat nearly as much fish as I would if I were in Portugal, I feel this is a somewhat acceptable substitute. Anyone else taking them?
Yes! I eat meat about 4 times a month and I never eat seafood so I supplement. I take a 3,6,9. It is good for your heart and you brain too. If you eat enough meat, dairy and fish most people generally get adequate amnts of omegas. One of the best sources of omegas is hemp seeds or hemp seed oil.
yup, i keep them by the computer so that i remember to take them! one thing to remember is that if you're eating factory farmed meat, it's incredibly ~deficient~ in the omegas that we need, because the animals are fed an unnatural diet, so eat free ranged, or wild meats! and remember that the plant versions (hemp, flax, etc) of omegas only contain the precursors to what we need, so look for dha specifically on the label of your supplement
i buy the bottles of fish oil - its cheaper and just take a swig from it periodically buy fish oil thats undergone "molecular distillation" it takes out the whacky chemicals they've dumped in the ocean from the oil in the fish, otherwise you are in effect poisoning yourself.
I do hemp and flax seeds combined with coconut oil(which helps them convert to long chain fatty acids). Also, if you want to get good fats from plant sources...One of the big co-factors in converting the acids into the form the body uses them in, is magnesium. So, be sure you have a lot of that in your diet via chocolate, green leafy vegetables, or nuts and seeds. You can also do algae supplements, since algae is where the fish get their oil from... It's found in small amounts in klamath lake blue-green algae supplements, but omega-zen makes a concentrated version. Hemp oil is definatley ideal, being in the perfect ratio that the body likes it. In most healthy bodies, people can convert those fatty acids just fine. NIMH, that is a good point about factory farmed beef being dangerously high in omega 6 fatty acids. Between those and hydrogenated oils, it should really not surprise people that so many still die of heart disease...
