THANKS for reading my post. i have a few questions on setup and scrog growing if you do not mind me picking your brain. I appreciate it. *trying to build a 'triangle' box with dimensions of 3 x 3 x approx. 4.2 *4 plants *250 hps lamp *medium pots are 4" high *medium to screen is 10" *screen to top of box (including light) is 25" 1. are all these dimensions okay? 2. Should I buy a stronger wattage light? I read that it should be about 50/watts per plant, but then I have read in some posts online that when growing with scrog, each plants needs more light. What do you think? 3. I am trying to fit the "box" into my room so as to be inconspicuous. can I still grow Scrog in a triangle? 4. I read that there should be no more than 1 plant/sq. foot, but does it matter how the 4 plants are arranged within the triangle? If placed toward the middle of the triangle, can I train them to reach out to the different corners or do even the pots have to be equally distrubted within the box as well? 5. i chose 4" pots, but should I get a smaller/larger pot? 6. I am interested in purchasing an air cool fitting and lens when I purchase my lamp. Does this mean I should also have an additional piece of glass inbetween the growing area and lamp? 7. EXTREMELY confused about: * Carbon filters--a must in small setup? Does the carbon filter fit onto/around the fan holes? * Intake/Outtake Fans-I plan on using small computer fans to keep the air moving within the grow area. If I section off of the lamp from the growing area, would that mean I would need intake/outtake for the growing area as well as the lamp area to keep the lamp cool? * DRYING- What are the options here? Are there alternatives to hanging upside and drying? Can I make a dryer from products at home? 8. How much/how frequently should I water the plants? 9. I plan to grow straight from seeds, but I plan to soak my seeds in an estrogen solution overnight before i plant them in order to raise my odds of a homogenous female population. 10. I plan on growing just for myself, so I probably will have a little leftover pot. How long does dried pot last? Is there a certain way to preserve it? I hope I did not overwhelm you with all of my questions! I have researched and read a lot on my own, but I am beginning to learn that there is a lot more to successful growing than meets ones eye. You seem really passionate about growing, and I think that is awesome! Thanks again!
I am not a grow cabinet guy; but I think I see the problem here; it's question #9! The myth that Birth Control Pills or Estrogen compounds can influence your seeds to become female plants is just that - a myth!!! Human hormones have very little effect on cannabis! There is a "Sticky" by MeanGreen, I believe it is in the Techniques Section, it explains how to raise the ratio of females to males. I'll give your questions a shot, but remember "I'm not a cabinet guy"! *trying to build a 'triangle' box with dimensions of 3 x 3 x approx. 4.2 *4 plants *250 hps lamp *medium pots are 4" high *medium to screen is 10" *screen to top of box (including light) is 25" 1. are all these dimensions okay? I think it needs more screen to top of box room (for light clearence). 2. Should I buy a stronger wattage light? I read that it should be about 50/watts per plant, but then I have read in some posts online that when growing with scrog, each plants needs more light. What do you think? 50 watts/sq.ft. not 50watts /plant. 250watt hps should be fine. 3. I am trying to fit the "box" into my room so as to be inconspicuous. can I still grow Scrog in a triangle? This is the biggest problem I see. The light doesn't distribute well into a triangle (the points are outside the focus area). Reflective walls would help. But? I say give it a shot!!! 4. I read that there should be no more than 1 plant/sq. foot, but does it matter how the 4 plants are arranged within the triangle? If placed toward the middle of the triangle, can I train them to reach out to the different corners or do even the pots have to be equally distrubted within the box as well? I would think that you could put all 4 pots in the center and have them trained to grow outwards; but I wouldn't. I'd put one in each corner and one in the center of the long wall and train them to fill in towards the center. 5. i chose 4" pots, but should I get a smaller/larger pot? I think the pots should be a lot bigger (2 gal. maybe). 6. I am interested in purchasing an air cool fitting and lens when I purchase my lamp. Does this mean I should also have an additional piece of glass inbetween the growing area and lamp? Are you talking about an "air cooled reflector" or a "cool tube"? 7. EXTREMELY confused about: * Carbon filters--a must in small setup? Not if odor isn't a problem. Does the carbon filter fit onto/around the fan holes? It could be mounted almost anywhere by using clothes-dryer air ducting. * Intake/Outtake Fans-I plan on using small computer fans to keep the air moving within the grow area. If I section off of the lamp from the growing area, would that mean I would need intake/outtake for the growing area as well as the lamp area to keep the lamp cool? Absolutely! * DRYING- What are the options here? Are there alternatives to hanging upside and drying? Can I make a dryer from products at home? Rangerdanger has written the best - step by step- instuctions for drying/curing; didn't you see them? 8. How much/how frequently should I water the plants? There are just too many variables to give specific amounts. Don't over water!!! 9. I plan to grow straight from seeds, but I plan to soak my seeds in an estrogen solution overnight before i plant them in order to raise my odds of a homogenous female population. Refer to the top of the post, I started with the answer to this! 10. I plan on growing just for myself, so I probably will have a little leftover pot. How long does dried pot last? Is there a certain way to preserve it? Properly cured pot can last for decades in a humidore. Everything is explained in Rangerdanger's instructions. I hope I did not overwhelm you with all of my questions! You will find that 1 or 2 questions at a time will get a much better responce with much more detailed answers. I have researched and read a lot on my own, but I am beginning to learn that there is a lot more to successful growing than meets ones eye. Ain't that the truth? LOL
