question about cannabis cup release dates

anyone know when hash and herb that is being judged in the cannabis cup starts making it way to the coffeeshops
ill be in town late next month and want to know if ill get a chance to sample some of this years best buds

Good question, tankboy. Wish I had the answer for you. I do know they are released before the event actually starts, however, I don't think to the public. Gotta have a friend and I do lol one of the reasons I'm going a little earlier

Nobody has answered my question weeks ago about buying the entries in the coffeeshops if you're not a judge. Anybody know about that? I refuse to pay that amount for nothing as I can get myself to the coffeeshops, but also want to make sure I can buy any of the entries at the coffeeshops. C'mon seasoned tokers I know SOMEONE knows SOMETHING

There is no one answer. There are about 20-25 coffeeshops entered into the Cannabis Cup. Some will enter what's already on their menu. Most will be looking for months ahead of the Cup for that very special entry. Some entries are tested by the celebrity judges the week before the cup. Most of the coffeeshops will put it out their entries for sale to the public the day that the cup starts or a few days earlier. Some of the entries might be in such short supply, they might be only available to the judges.

One of the best hashes I've had in a long time was from the Dampkring entry last year - Rifman's Malika. The Dampkring gave out many free sample packs of all 4 of their entries at the cup and at a great party they put on one night during the cup last year. There are a few benefits of buying a judges pass.

just go and have fun..its all about having fun..just have fun...go with an open mind and have fun..ya dont have to do everything or even in any order,,makes it easier to avoid the crowds..its too much for some people but go and make your own choice...you will have a good time ...i will be the smoke cloud with legs..paul

i went in 98' they put me up in a shit hole youth hostel all the way down by albert cuypnstraat. they advertised it as a hotel in my agreement, it became a youth hotel at the airport, and the taxi dropped me off at a hostel. only had a sink in my room.......a shower for the entire floor. something i dealt with, but not what i expected. i was a teenager, it was my first time in europe, hell it was the first time i ever flew. so the day before the cup about 4 of the best shops withdraw. i find this very odd and make it a mission to approach these four shops and do some digging. de dampkring is the only one that gives up the info........

the budtender goes on to then explain that hightimes has been doing this for awhile now and that predominantly coffeeshops that have seedlines are the ones attracted to paying the money. obviously it adds to their seed sales. (current cup winners will sell for 5x - 10x as much money). ever notice how greenhouse dominated the cup for years? payola.....

i basically said f high times at that point, never cast my ballot, but did take advantage of the melkweg parties and cult. seminars at the melkweg. got to meet eagle bill (first of many times), jack herrer, stephen gaskin, ed rosenthal, rita marley, etc. at those parties that year.

got back home after the trip and reported it all on the hightimes website and every other canna. message board i was on at the time. hightimes claimed that they "changed" the ballot submission / testing / voting process to more of a double blind system the following year to dispell "rumors" that the tournament was rigged. small personal victory at the time

i heard that its so bad now that they have celebrity judges sample before the cup starts!

ultimately it is a conference with a shitty travel agency package.

I'll just be excited to go (how can I NOT be??? lol) and decide from there if I ever go again. I don't like crowds too much and I have the same feeling about Queensday that I do about this "I bet it's going to be SOOOO crowded", but I have to try them both at least once to see.

I agree Re: the judging and being misled, that would piss me off and that's one of the reasons I refuse to pay the money to be a judge. You kidding? I'll spend it on the weed... much better investment to me. I also agree with you about the celebrity judging, PUHLEEEEEEZE. They wipe their asses same as we do, or not as good as me, so what makes them so special? I hate that stuff. To be honest? I can't stand any "King or Queen" crap either. They're no more special than anyone else, in fact, usually just the opposite. I'm opposed to anything that makes one person more important than another, period. We all have our gifts and worth, unless it's someone that hurts a child. Then they're SCUM to be mopped up with bleach and I'm just the girl to do it lol

I know I sure have enjoyed the past cup winners like Willie Nelson & Jack Herer. Don't know if NYC Diesel ever won but it should have if it didn't!

Anymore info. or tips for the Cup would be greatly appreciated!!!

Judging of the Cannabis Cup by either paying judges or celebrity judges (who most often judge the seed company entries, which would be impossible for the paying judges to judge since their entries are not always available at the coffeeshops) is not even close to being done right. After all how many different strains can you tell apart & judge in 4 days. Not even close to the 40, 50 or 60 different strains of marijuana & hash entered each year.

koopa did go to the Cup during a very bad year, 1998. It was so sad - seeing the Greenhouse win every Cup except for best booth. And koopa, there are at least 3 different travel companies offering trips to this years Cup. But I think most people come on their own. Changes have been made to the rules of the Cup and even Dampkring has been entering again for the last 3 years.

So if you want to try lots of good entries, party with over 1,000 others and have a good time try the Cannabis Cup. But the judging will be far from perfect. What matters is did you like the entries.

Anyone else getting there the 17th? I changed my dates if you see this, FBN. It's now the 17th - 23rd because it was much cheaper to fly out the 16th. It was as much as the hotel and then some, so a free day in the dam, really wheeeeeeeeeeee how could I say no to that??? I miss my Willie Nelson and sure wish I had some right now. I'll just have to make due with my NYC Diesel, Orange Bud, White Melon, White Smurf and Blueberry lol yeah I'm so deprived... NOT In fact, it's close to 4:20 *~grin~*

Oh cool we could all plan to meet somewhere like Amnesia at a certain time That's a cool place to hang, with excellent tea and even more importantly... weed! Then there's Grey Area right around the corner if we so decide to shoot over there after Amnesia wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeee can't wait! I'll have my coffeeshop map with me... it's all printed out and in my bag ready to go. I'm psyched
