I ate borscht the other night... for those not in the know, its a beet soup with all sorts of veggies, vinegar, and sour cream. Turns out Mandred doesn't like Borscht Breast Milk... now.. what would be the likeliest cause? The beets? The vinegar? Or maybe the cabbage? He was a major poopie-pants fuss budget fart machine, but is now fine. What things did your little ones turn up their noses at when it came through in your breast milk?
Sorry, I have nothing useful or helpful to say here, but I couldn't resist responding to say I LOVE YOUR SIG PIC! Seriously, that little one of yours is so darn cute in that onesy with his adorable little smile. Seeing that made my day!
well honestly aiden liked everything that came through my milk. he never had a bad stomach ache fom my milk but i do remember when i tried to give him formula he hated it refused to take it. the only reason i had to give him formula is cuz he was using my nipples to teethe on and they would bleed and crack and just hurt every time he went to latch on. but other than formula he likes every thing else.
i would say the cabbage prolly gave him the gas and the vinegar might've made it taste funny. for a little while, when rory was very small, i couldn't eat anything tomato based or anything made with dairy products, which really sucked as i love cheese. but she outgrew that pretty quickly.
I'd say the milk or vinegar. Maggie posted a few months ago on how gaseous foods don't cause fussy gassy babies...I need to pull that up. But either the milk or the vinegar.
I saw the sig the other day in another thread and I was thinking the same thing!!! He is absolutely adorable! Anyway, Mya doesn't like it when I drink milk, which I usually drink with almost every meal. I still put it in my cereal and I'll take a swig here and there and it doesn't seem to bother her as much as when I drink a whole glass.
Thanks for the input everyone. I thought it was either the cabbage or the vinegar, as they aren't things I eat everyday. I know he doesn't have issues with milk, as I eat a lot of dairy. (edit.. on second thought, I am going to skip the dairy for a couple days and see if that helps him any) thanks for the "cute baby" comments! He is a major sweetheart. He is only 5 weeks old today, so does the smile in the pic become any less cute when you know it was just a biproduct of a majorly filled diaper? lol!
with both of my girls, dairy was always a small problem, but not so big that I had to totally eliminate it. Jenny hated it when I ate spicy foods, or when I drank wine. Meriel has always been highly sensitive to acidic foods, like citrus fruits and such.
My guess would be the sour cream. Cabbage give YOU gas because it contains a ogliosaccaride (a complex sugar) which your intestines can't break down. So, that sugar FERMENTS in your gut and you get gas, BUT, neither the Oglio, nor the gas itself can get into your blood. The sugars are just too big, the molecule is too large to get into either your blood or your milk compartment, and the GAS, well, it's major component is air, and if you had THAT in your veins, you wouldn't be alive. So, it isn't likely to be the cabbage. (Occasionally, a mom will tell me that EVERY TIME she eats cruciferous veggies her baby gets gas, and no other time, so maybe once in a while ther is SOMETHING else in the veggie, but not usually) On the other hand, Dairy PROTIEN is the main cause of allergy in most people. We aren't talking about the Lactose (again, that's a sugar, and can't change the amount of lactose already in your milk) it can take days or weeks to get all the Bovine (cow) protein out of your system, so you need a good three weeks to a month without dairy, if it happens again. Than again, sometimes babies just get gassy. It has nothing to do with YOUR milk, it's just his new intestines having hard time, even with the best stuff on earth. Some Grip Water or Mylicon may help, if it happens again. Usually they fart a few times and cry in your arms and then have a huge poo and feel better. Hope you are both feeling better. He IS an adorable baby.
