    THIS IS GOODWINS ISLAND-FOR SALE
    52 ACRES/ Canada

    OK,ok so how much? -$57,000
I posted elsewhere the notion of purchasing an island and converting it into the ultimate Pala. Well, with enough people investing, and with interest rates, instead of struggling hopelessly to pay off a mortage and Bush's war, come retire in an alike minded community. Look at how blue that water is!!!!
I AM seriuos. I wish to set up an account to earn interest etc and the more people, the quicker we can all relax. Is anyone sincerely interested?

Yes that is a nice island as well, but at 620K, you'd either have to keep dreaming, or know a very wealthy person.

To answer the first replier's question as to how many people would be needed. Well I woul destimate approx. 30-50 depending on their true dedication.
Not that many to begin with, but to have a nice communitygoing.

To really get this idea 3-D I think 5-10 serious people is a good start.
I am serious about starting a fund if others want to be a part of this
e-mail me at gb@kindweb.zzn.com if you are interested, or post here

To live on an island far far away from civilization and caos is definitely what i would want to do with my life!! I have a car i could sell to chip in with some cash. Depending on the soil we could live off our own crops man that would be beautiful i am seriously interested
    Heres my e-mail chrism8@terra.com.br

Can I live on that little tiny part and be a princess?

That does sound like an awesome idea. I wish I had $$$ to help. :( Maybe someday.... when I'm rich and famous and the values I have now no longer mean anything to me...haha.... Isn't that how it works? :D

Yes cosmicbutterfly, that is factor. However I am confident that we can live together and work through the details with one another.

Again, if the opportunity of peaceful living with others on land you own* interests you, please e-mail me to get involved. You don't have to be rich, or well-off, just sincere.

That particular island is off the east coast in Nova Scotia.
the following is the description from the website:

This island is situated in the southern part of the Atlantic province of Nova Scotia with warm waters due to influence of Gulf Stream. This round-shaped island is protected and enclosed by various other islands and lies close to the mainland.

Thats nice. You can get cheaper land, like 2-10 acres for pretty cheap. You just have to worry about the tide rising and flooding the place. 50,000 is'nt really that much though, I don't see why you would need all those people.

I had given thought to flooding and so the weather is another important factor to invest thought in. As for the ammount of people to the acres, I understand the concern however even if you look at only 50 people at $1,120 each over a few years.... with a positivegroup of people we will own our space. In the spirit of communal living I don't see how living together with 50+ acres would be a problem. It is also entirely possible to accomplish this with fewer people, which would be ideal.

Plus, the Goodwins Island is just an example of the land and opportunity currently available, additional oppourtunities are inevitable. But before we can pin it down, every society needs a population:)

Although, like what you wrote about cheaper 1-2 acres, if we could find a large lot of land, it could be just as well.

    Sorry one more post...

I misread your message, I agree that 50k is not much, especially in comparison.
I was just hoping to gain that freedom for all sooner and cheapest for each person.
    sorry for my misunderstanding

I like the idea, but I have to know where exactly it is, and how much each of us would have to chip in. I don't have all that much, but I'm getting a job and I'll hopefully be able to contribute more if we can get it all together. E-mail me any details you have to me at Oleanader@msn.com

I'm glad to see people taking interest. But it is reasonable to mention that this isn't just a overnight deal. It will take a couple years to accomplish. The cost of the land isn't the only cost. There are also developmental costs ... well a lot more. I'd veiw this opportunity as an early retirement plan without all the salesmen b/s. Independence.. yee-haw

If enough people contact me or this post I'm ready to begin a savings account. Just a bit at a time, and hopefully form the right ammount of people= freedom

I am very interested in this idea... however a few things to consider about your particular selection:

The gulf stream is steadily shifting southward. If your island was no longer in the gulf stream, it could drop the median ambient temperature drastically. Although being uncomfortable, it has a much bigger impact on agriculture. Your selection of plants hardy to that climate would be limited, and your growing seasons would be shorter, hence yields would be smaller.

Global Warming. Finally, we are at a point in history where the vast majority of climate experts agree that it's happening. How many years have we been shouting about this? Anyway... Your island there looks pretty flat. If sea levels were to rise, you'd be out of a home. Of course, I suspect this is a problem that any island commune would have to think about. Hopefully we'll run out of oil before we melt the icecaps too much.

Anyhow, a pacific Island is definitely the way to go. The closer to the equator the better. Think about it: Hawaii has a year round growing season, moderate 70 degree weather, excellent rain fall (source of fresh water).

    It's all about latitude.

$620,000 seems like a better investment to me than $52,000.

I've been thinking about starting a commune for some time now. But until I saw this post I was only think in terms of buying an old farm, or some depressed land in Arkansas or something... but an island! That's where it's at. Isolation, while a burden, also adds a nice aspect of protection. Please, get in touch with me: spam@flatcurve.net (don't worry, it works. you'll get my real address in a reply) I have a decent knowledge of renewable energy that I could bring to the party. I'm also no slouch when it comes to agriculture.
