i find with any way of meeting people on the net, whether it be an intentional dating site or just a forum like this, you always run the risk of someone not being who they claim to be. after a really bad breakup, i made a personal ad on an online dating thing, and i'm not sure why. i didn't really feel like meeting someone else yet, even for a grudge-fuck, but i guess i thought it would make me feel better. i completely forgot about the ad and the only way i remembered it was when i checked the old email address i was using for things like that (i have one i use only for mailing lists and the like so it doesn't crowd my personal inbox of my school email). it was about 8 months after i'd made the profile, and there were upwards of 30 emails from guys who were interested in "me." you know, i never responded to any of them. not because i'm stuck up, but because i realized that you can't really "know" someone until you've met them in person and spent a good long time getting to know them. case in point, my roommate thought he met the perfect girl online, but right before "she" was set to come visit him, "she" confessed that "she" was actually a "he" who was using pics of his girlfriend! so i always have the mentality that until you've met a person face to face, you can't get even a small picture of who they really are. we can have these online personas that reflect only a small part of ourselves, but there are tons of people who go online pretending to be someone else entirely. it's very deceptive. now i'm not saying it never works out, because for a few people it does. you just have to be very careful.

Looking for a real relationship, well, sites liek okcupid and myspace helped me find the last four guys that I've dated.

Just the mention of AFF leaves a me a bit weirded out. I remember when I was either 16 or 17 and my sister posted on there with my picture...not a very racy one which you usually see but still....Her profile was insanly crazy/kinky with my photo attached. I reckon many dating site profiles are fakes to get people to part with their money.Get involved with the discussions here at Hipforums and see if you like anyone. Users here have the option of listing their partner status. You can meet people here without coming here just for that purpose.
